I may come along if I can get a bike together. Currently the Lefty is getting serviced on the SS and I have totally frozen linkage bearings on the anthem. My BMORC basher is all I have to ride.

Hey Stephen - what brand/type bearings are you putting in to the Anthem? Just think I'll be doing mine soon. (Cleaned and repacked them about 12 months ago beacuse the ones in the lower link were full of crud.

Putting in DIYMTB bearings, they are the Enduro MAX ones, much better sealing than the standards. Standard are $69 from Giant and DIY's are $70 + $10 postage. Out of the 10 bearings I had 2 totally frozen, only 1 perfect and the rest at different stages of notchy. I removed them all, cleaned and repacked, but I figure I will just replace them rather than messing around putting them back in only to wonder if I should have gone new.
Luckly no damage to the frame or pivots, the suspension seemed to cycle ok, I just decided it was time to pull the arse end off. Did the BB a few weeks ago and I ordered new bearings for the SS BB as well cause one side is feeling ordinary.

Captain slow may be there pending how many bottles of wine I consume tonight. I'll catch ya at Springwood station.

Forgive my ignorance but what's Lazo?

BM Epic's picture

Cross between lawson/hazelbrook, its a pretty secluded spot, thats all im saying!

Got the SS back so will cruise around Lazo's with you but probably won't come down the oaks. See yous at the station.

ChopStiR's picture

I've got my car fixed so I'm thinking I will drive up to Lazo with the SS, will skip on the Oaks.

Lazo is great on the SS and for the hills that are too steep you have the excuse to walk!!

Make sure we take a great photo for JP.

The Lazo trail head is here. Smiling

Thanks Stephen - think the DIY ones are the go. I've tried pricing them at bearing suppliers a couple of times and they work out quite a bit more anyway. (At least for me Sad ) It'll be a different bike with those working smoothly. Are you doing them yourself? I will do mine - I'm sure I'll have to make up some sort of "special tool" though for the bearings at the top of the seatstays. All the rest look do-able with the bolt and sockets approach.

BOM is saying 5-11 degrees for Katoomba and 8 - 17 for Springers. Lazo "should" be somewhere in between so might need something light until we get going.

Say hi to Vladimir Putin for me Mick.
Make sure that you avoid any of this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polonium whilst riding. Could be nasty.

Pedalgogy's picture

The Polonium would have kept us warm. Not sure about the radio active part though.

Chuck's picture

I'm sure Stephen runs on something like Polonium when he rides the single speed.

Great riding today!! Bloody wind was cold though.
