Hi guys
Despite the fact that im looking into a HT 29er, im just wondering whether it would be a good option go dually 29er
So i narrowed down my options and have decieded on going either waiting out for the new 2013 Giant Anthem advanced 29er, or just going for a Scott Spark 29er
Any thoughts would be greatful

Yeah, im not entirely sure about Yeti
But im more looking for a pure XC race dually 29er or a pure XC hardtail 29er
My Pivot 429 is just beautiful!!
My SB 95 is sweeeeeeeeeet! Absolute terrain muncher. Have ridden my friend's Superfly 100 and that was also an excellent ride. I have an Anthem 26er which is a great ride and tremendous value, so if I were looking at your two options, if there was any similarity to my ride, maybe I would lean towards the Giant.
If you want a bike sooner rather than later then get the Spark and start enjoying the riding sooner.
The fact that you are considering waiting for the Anthem though, suggests to me that you may not be convinced that the Spark is the one to own.
I mean, would you consider the Spark if the Anthem was currently available?
I have owned a Pivot 429 for several years and from the day I first rode it I have not wanted to change it at all.
I do own 3 other 29ers and 1 26er and some road bikes but My Pivot is is my favourite bike, there are many nah sayers about 29er but most of them have never owned one let alone an excellent one.
I have raced it a lot and people do go on that they are slow in tight corners, maybe I lose .25 of a second sometimes in a corner but make way more in a fast corner with more stability and grip, also faster over techy stuff, in some places on my regular rides I would back off or even brake a little over rough sections of track, on the Pivot I pedal hard into these same places and the bike just eats it up.
Dw link I wouldn't buy a bike without it, on my 1st ride up andos hill from the creek to the top gate I did my PB of 14:27 the dw link is very good at reducing pedal bob to the minimum while remaining compliant to work properly, there are lighter bikes you can buy but in my opinion it leads to a frame with more flex that reduces your confidence in cornering especially at speed. (the light bikes also don't last as well).
Technical descents I've had my share of journeys OTB and thankfully since changing to 29ers that's a rare thing now and I do way harder descents than I would with 26" wheels.
For endurance riding I love it, I've done 8 24hr solos and 4 of them on the Pivot 429 the technical nature of Stromlo is where my bike really shines, I got 4th in my age group and 49th overall in the world solos there and have to say that big wheels and great suspension had me flying over some very rough terrain. I did 351km with 9500m of climbing that day and need i say a comfortable easy to ride bike is paramount.
Groover
My point in which i was going to wait out is because the new anthem 29ers come in a carbon frame and weigh alot lighter than the prevous anthems
Or i could get a scott spark expert 29er
Scalpel 29er! A couple of "extras" and it's well under 10kgs.
I think this bike has changed my life! Well, just a little bit!
Take a Specialized Epic 29er for a ride, with the Brain it has all the benefits of a dually and a hard tail.
What model spark are you thinking of?
Snowey, going back to your original question about duallie vs hardtail 29er, there's a good discussion about just that on MTBR at the moment http://forums.mtbr.com/29er-bikes/new-29ers-cont...
Consensus seems to be HT are more fun/hard core, but duallie faster and more comfortable.
i was thinking the 2012 expert or elite
Cant speak for the giant anthem 29ers but I purchased a scott spark expert two weeks ago and rode the dirtworks 100k on the weekend and would definately recommend one.
... and then some.
@carlgroover; 351km and 9500m of climbing? Wow.
All this on/around Stromlo?
WOW!!!
Strong stuff mate!
the new carbon anthem isnt a lot lighter than the alu version - -its 280grams or something.
the weight loss for the whole bike is via components - all stuff you can do aftermarket - the aluminium versus carbon bit that costs $1500 saves the same as going from a 750ml water bottle to a 500ml one, or saving the camel back and going 2 bottles instead. ;D
So what you're saying is that there is no major weight difference between this years anthem and the carbon anthem?
wow matted you bought a bike less than two weeks and you did a comp on it, you must have instantly felt comfortable eon that scott spark.
hmm add to the long list of things to buy
snowy, you need to ad the word frame after anthem at each stage. ie the reason the carbon anthem is a reasonable amount lighter is the build, not the carbon frame (eg there's 500g in a pxc2 wheelset ato save alone, 120grams in just a carbon bar, seat and post is another 150g) I lost >twice the frame weight difference on my anthem for $500 (and got spare wheels to boot)
My editor is currently lining up a 4" travel Ellsworth Evolve 29er for me to ride for a month. Will be interesting to compare.

Hawkeye that's just showing off! Nice one though, looking forward to hearing how it rides. Keen to get up to Terrey Hills sometime soon as let it rip?
For sure, as soon as it arrives ... and as soon as I'm over this chest virus that hit me Sunday night.
I'm keen to give it a whirl around Manly Dam too ... let's hope the weather continues to cooperate
cool, awesome bike
Looks like the Evolve is being dropped off at my place this weekend.
Damn. Looks like I'll have no choice but to crawl out of my sick bed and go for a ride.
........you never go back. Keen to see that Evolve on the trails of Terrey Hills, you pushing whose big wheels out of Towlers.
