No Front Wheel

Obviously I don't get out much. I thought that 29ers were the next "big thing." But this week, on three separate occasions riding around Manly Dam, I have seen three (3) different people riding unicycles.

I don't know how they do it: How do they get up hills? How do they steer? How do they control their speed? What about getting over obstacles? How do they get under all the overhanging branches?

None of these riders was dressed like a clown, so I'm assuming it is serious.

Is it time for me to lose that front "training" wheel and jump onto the next big thing?

It's very serious Cambowambo! Two of my brothers and a cousin of mine are all into the unicycle scene - one of them even plays for a unicycle hockey team. Mountain unicycling (or MUni) is pretty popular, you can even get unicycles with disc brakes!

Otherwise, it's all down to back pressure on the pedals to slow yourself down. And if things get to steep, start hopping! http://www.unicycling.com/muni/2004/index.htm

And as for 29er's being the new thing, my younger bro has a 36inch wheel unicycle with short crank arms. Goes pretty quick for something with no brakes!
