Stolen Bikes
Hi Guys,
Just a bit of a whinge - I have just had two bikes stolen from my garage in Collaroy - both 2012 white Specialized Epic Expert carbon 29s. The garage was locked and the bikes chained but but had little effect against bolt cutters. Another guy in the building lost a superfly and a giant.
The Specialized are quite distinct bikes (especially the XL) and I have never seen any out around the northern beaches. If you do happen to see them, please let me know.
Cheers

Same story here.
Both my Yeti's were chained to wall mounted brackets ( with serious ABUS cable locks....) in a locked garage.
Thieves broke in through a side window and somehow levered the brackets off the wall. They were obviously after the bikes and were not opportunist.
( the combination of a council clean up week and the Easter holiday probably didn't help.... People away on holiday combined with lots of strangers cruising around loading things into vans....)
Looks like there are some pretty determined bike thieves targeting the Northern Beaches at the moment.
Hope your bikes show up !

Strava does let you hide your home and work addresses, not sure if that is a recent thing.
Bad news about the bikes, they looked really nice too
Edit: just noticed this is already mentioned in the linked post.
No, not a Strava user. I do use a Garmin but it is all set to private.
I gaurantee there would have been no way of stopping this. I also gaurantee the people that did it found out the best way over time. My bike was chopped out of my garage and I don't even wheel it in to the garage (I'm in an apartment), I used to wheel it through the front door and then go into the garage. Either that, or someone from my building stole it. Either way they are pathetic low lifes who have nothing going for them, insurance worked well for me, so that was a plus.
To the original poster, sorry to hear about your bikes. I will certainly keep an eye out.
I recently heard mention of an organised bike stealing group on the northern beaches.
It was just some side comments from a non bicycle enthusiast local and it was linked to a certain nationality so I didn't give it much credence, but the above posts make it more interesting.
Manly and the northern beaches are somewhat of a 'police state'. Is anyone rattling their cage about this?
They probably aren't interested in bicycle theft as it doesn't raise revenue for them but really, this isn't someone randomly pinching an old malvern star from the school bike shed. This is people coming into your property tooled-up specifically targeting and stealing high end bicycles worth many thousands of dollars. A situation like that can easily become a violent crime against someone they happen upon in the property at the time.
