Suggestions for a long-ish training ride this weekend
After the Convict 100 the other weekend I've signed up for the Husky 100 too! I did get a little lower back pain during the convict so had the bike fitted properly today and made a few changes.
So, with half a mind on trying out the new measurements, and half a mind on a good training ride, I'm looking for some local options for sunday arvo. I had thought of just doing 4 laps of the dam, but decided I should be more adventurous. I've done long / perimeter a few times up at Terrey Hills - any suggestions on linking these up with some other tracks up that way to make a 3 ish hour ride??
Thanks
Jonny

Start with a lap of the Dam, go over to Cascades, Mona Vale sniggle, Duck Holes, Salvation track from the north end, Centre, Perimeter, Long, Cullamine, Booralie.........some other track I cant remember its name, back onto Cascades and to finish you off another lap of the Dam.
Why don't you start at Manly Dam. Down from the waterworks.
Follow the standard loupe until the end of the golf course wiggle.
Cross the road & follow the bantry bay firetrail until the end. Cross over Warringah road & make your way past Glen st enter the cascades track at Stone Pde in Davidson.
ride though the cascades & take the quarrie track up to Mona vale road in st Ives
then ride to the st Ives showground.
at the back of that is another 3 k's single track. This will take you almost all the way back intersection of Forrest way & mona Vale road. then backtrack exactly how you came . except finish take the pipeline across the top of Manly dam. Then rejoin Manly Dam & finish up back at the water works.
Thats just short of 40 k's . you can choose to do another full lap of MD if its not enough for you.
yes there is about 10 k's of transport stage in that, but its the perfect opp. to do some Interval training.
there is also the floergarden track in st Ives as well as some other tracks to join up. doing 100k's should not be a problem if thats what you want to do.
I think thats pretty much a standardish loupe a lot of guys ride on the regular basis. I'm sure someone would have a name for it.
but once you get to the end of the 3k single track running from St Ives Showground along Mona Vale Road, you can go down a fire trail (don't know what this is called) to the left where the sign is, cross the creek at the bottom, up some steps into the back of Duffeys Forest (I think it is!), onto the road to the Japanese School onto Long, Perimeter back to Duck Holes etc etc etc.
Oaks Up, Ingar Up, Andersons Down, Oaks Down.
Oaks Up, Ingar Up, Andersons Down, Oaks Down. It also harder to loose your way using this option. Best to have someone with you if you decide to go up Ingar and back down Andersons though.
If you want to do a bit around Terrey Hills, you can do Duck (with a couple of hill repeats for fun) Towlers / Waratah, then back Centre, then link to Perimeter and Long return to the shops. Depending on what options you take should be a few hours, particularly if you throw in a couple of hill repeats.
ooops sorry wrong thread
I am a fan of the 4 laps of the Dam. No cars and a great workout, small amount of single track.
Also head back into Cascades via the Mona Vale Rd sniggle and chuck in The Dam and you're looking at around the 100km mark
Have fun
PS It's not called a Hill Fest for nothing, bring your climbing legs.
Thanks for the input, think I'll go for the dam and then work my way upto TH and do long/perimeter. This gives a lot of options, as I can always come back on the blacktop if time is getting short.
I'll be leaving from Manly around noon, message me if anyone fancies joining in!

Did a 3.5hr ride - did the Dam and then onto Bantry Bay, then upto Cascades and (after a bit of iPhone navigation and getting a little lost!) onto Heath Track, then back the same way and a final loop of the Dam.
Ended up being 52km, but I think I wasted about 30 mins with navigation duties!
