Manly Dam Questions

Just a quick couple of questions.

1. Is Manly Dam open for night riding? If so, do many people ride the Dam at night?
2. Is there any way to extend any other trails around Manly Dam into the ride to get it close to 20km, with minimal road?

1. Yes. Its only Closed when its officially closed by the rangers due to bad weather or maintenance.
1B. yes there is but considerably less now with the colder weather.

to get 20 k's I'd just do 2 laps. maybe extend the 2nd lap up to the pipeline & do the Nursing home track. That will be pretty close to 20 k's

Cascades is a good 5 k's away from Manly Dam.....so go figure

Red Hill is probably a fraction less in a different direction.

1: yes it is. Dunno.
2: yes, there are other nearby trails but no singletrack that is legal. Cook Street Track is good for hill repeats. Access via Forestville Park, after riding up Bantry Bay Rd fire trail.

Alternatively you could do multiple laps of Manly Dam.

If you could aim to wrap up by 10pm it will help keep our neighbours happy.

I was thinking more 5:30 - 8:00 rides. It's hard getting training in while working long hours while living next door to where I work. There is nothing wrong with fire trails!

good point finishing up earlier. I've disturbed some druggies on the pipeline feeder track late at night. Mind you, they were probably just as scared as I was....but thats what you get riding solo at night.

Burt Ernie What was the closing time before this?
May 10 at 11:05pm.

Warringah Council It was 7.30pm due to daylight savings and the longer summer days - the light making it suitable for riders to use the track more safely.

Huh?

They are talking about the Gate, where the public road enters into Manly Dam Reserve. Near the Dam Wall. This has nothing to do with riding around the MTB track.
This only prevents cars from entering or leaving Manly Dam BBQ & recreational arears on the acual lake itself. I've had countless BBQ's after that time of day we only had to move our cars out for the night. It doesnt mean you cant go in there.

It is very confusing especially because their comments are directed at the mountain biking trail....sounds like when council made that comment on the facebook page they had their wires crossed.

Maybe a clarification should be sort....

yea its badly written as from the gate of Manly Dam there is no direct connection to the Manly Dam main MTB circuit. Unless you return back to Arana St or take one of the walking tracks just after the gate. So I'm not sure what relevance the gate has to the MTB track. Or why its on the page of the Manly Dam Moutain bike track page. Perhaps they refer the road at Manly Dam as a cycling track on face book.....but hats just me asuming

anyway.... MD mtbike track closed at night? I surely hope not.
