The GyroBike.

For teaching kids how to ride.
Have a look at the video, a guy pushes a bike with no-one on it and it stays upright.
[Mod. slightly tenuous, but this looks to be electronic so moved to Geek Gear. Certainly not an Aus. specific post]

What will Australia Funniest Home Videos screen once this takes off!
Actually looks kind of cool. About to build my 2 year old a balance bike... she's too small for the ones on the market but I don't want to wait until she's 3 to get her on a bike. Also want her to skip training wheels so this could be a good option.
Does it come in a 26"??
That's awesome! Although the wheel is more expensive than the bike I recently bought for my friends kids birthday.
ChopStir the experience of learning to ride a bike is priceless.
What ever happened to just falling off and getting back on again?
I need this! - I can't wait till Easton makes a 29'er version of this Gyro wheel...
It'll help me stay upright...

Unfortunately that is going to be of zero assistance to me.

Where do you munt your camera? Does not look like its on the helmet when you came off, or did it detach?
.... chest.
"Munt" isn't far wrong, by the way. I need to take a look at the slow-mo because I think I landed either on it or on part of the bike. Ribs have been bloody sore the last week, and coughing has been very painful. I'm thinking I might have cracked a rib. Thankfully no sneezing so far.
Why is it this kind of thing always seems to happen when others are about? I (unthinkingly) went left to straighten up my exit line because of the two guys crowding the line at the bottom roll-down, and forgot all about the lip on the left in the middle. Newby mistake. Grr.
Hey Hawkeye
I feel your shame !
I done exactly the same thing a while ago. I was taking a group round the dam for their first time. They all took turns to ride the drop and then waited at the bottom to watch the next rider. I went last and thought if I approached more from the left than usual, I'd get more room at the bottom ( which was getting a bit crowded by now....). I'd forgotten about the perfectly shaped wheel catcher and went elegantly sailing over the bars in slow motion.... One of my , ahem,...'friends' even got it on camera.
Oh the humiliation.......
On another note, the first time I cracked a rib, I asked the doctor at the hospital what the treatment was.
" Go home, lie down and try not to laugh for six weeks..." was his reply
CB
Yeah, hehe, almost exactly the same scenario
Not so worried about laughing... more worried about the dreaded lurgy, given the weather and having to catch buses instead of ride.
At the moment I've got the garlic and wooden stake out in a flash whenever anyone dares sniffle or sneeze within 50 metres of me!
Have you got a replacement for your stolen commuter yet?
FWIW The most common complication after braking/cracking ribs is not being able to take a deep breath because it hurts. Not breathing deep enough (so it hurts) can result in mucous and moisture building up in the base of the lungs and can lead to a lung infection, even pneumonia - so keep breathing deeply so it hurts

Re the Gyro - wonder how hard it is to change direction?
