i entered the 50/50 race on the weekend in perth training as usally before the event feeling confident on beating last years time only to come in 25min behind it.reason for this is obvious if i try & turn the cranks they feel extreamly dry & dont spin freely backwards my Q.is it a minor or a major fix...

Probably new BB - if its an external shimano type, $40odd easy fit at home. Press fit - never had to change mine so no idea, I'd guess $100odd at the LBS.

Give us some more info, crankset & bike used, set up, set up last year, where you felt you lost time.

I think also the cource was a bit longer this year and was different. Felt like a bit more climbing and more decent that was very slow due to people not to confident going down. I got stuck behind one on every downhill!!!

May have a bearing locked up or full of crud. Some of the carbon Epics had bearing problems with water and crud getting into them, mainly drive side. Mine, an S-works Epic, had the problem with the drive side bearing. Had the bearing cleaned and re-greased and it's been fine since.

Funnily enough, last night my son was playing with my bike on a stand and said the rearwheel wasnt turning properly - sure enough, pedalling backwards was as if id tightened the cranks on too much, gave it a few stronger turns to try and figure out whether it was at the crank or the freewheel, and suddenly it just came free, and spun as nice as can be....

I assume a small rock or something got where it shouldnt and then came out again (had been on a muddy ride), but the first thing to do is get the chain off and isolate the problem to either rear wheel or crank, then go from there

cheers for the input i'll spray it down & take the chain off on the weekend when i have time see how it goes thanks seeyall @6hr..
