Ourimbah XC/DH/BBQ
The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.
For anyone who didn't have too many Christmas drinks the night before.
The usual mix of XC (well at least one lap), Downhill shuttles with a sausage in bread between runs. Or if you prefer, just keep hitting that awsome xc all day!
For those who haven't been to Ourimbah before, it's some of the best xc riding around with some super fun but not too serious downhill, always a good day.
I'll be bringing the ute of course to help with shuttles, good for about seven bikes. There may be a need to sort out another vehicle(s) between yourselves if the group increases.
I'll also provide the bbq so bring along some bread snags, sauce, drinks or whatever takes your fancy.
Should be a good day and maybe the last chance for a pre Christmas ride!
-feel free to bring cameras too, about time we got some pics up there.
see ya there, Nate

i should be there for that but i'll confirm closer to the time. im helping brother drive back from perth during the week and should be back for friday ready for a sat crack at it but i'll let you know.
Did the XC track a couple of weeks ago at the fat try festival, that track is great fun. What is the downhill like and are there B lines? Is it full faced helmet territory?
Benny
ok Nate/Alex its no VP FREE or Trek77 but the new (old) bike is ready to roll with a new wheel set etc. just have to learn how to ride this beast , hopefully this Friday's first outing will iron out any bumps in time for Nate's ride at Ourimbah next weekend then it will be Judge Judy time!! oh I am so frothing to get this rig down them hills yeeew! sorry Im a bit excited
dez
i've taken a 10yr old hartail xc bike down it. you'll just have to take it easier than if you were on a full blown DH rig. there are B lines for any jumps with only one steep washed out bit. It will depend on the weather. If its crap then probably best for all to stick to the switchback single track rather than chew up the course and kill ourselves on DH.
If you can do that big rollin drop on the XC course then you'll be fine on the DH.
that said if you do wish to do some of the A lines or want to fang it down the hill, i recommend a full face. i've been meaning to get one for some time now. it'll probly take a broken jaw to make me go and get one!
sweet dez! had a look at the rep judge, not a bad piece of machinery (for a cannon lol)..yeh im already to go, armored up brakes fixed, hanging for a peddle, havent been out for weeks!!
benny, yeh what blackbetty said, its up to u at the end of the day, i reccomend at least a full face just cause its so rocky..but i ride dh's padded up like the michelin man these days lol
I'll be coming up from Canberra the night before, so looking forward to meeting most of you guys. Only know DJR and Alex, who got me onto this site.
The new a-line is getting her spokes tightened and new rubber so it's ready to rip
A great start to the dh holiday before Thredbo!
Hi guys. I don't know any of you guys but I'll head out and see if I can bring some food/drinks. I'll bring both bikes so I can do some DH runs and an XC lap(s).
ill be there aswell. I can't seem to make the star turn red from the mobile..but ill be there. alex if you want to carpool again let me know. looking forward to seeing your new beast dez, sounds like a ripper.
bring on the dh!!
In like flynn... will be good to see the gang for one of the last times before i move to Tassie for a while.
Unless the wife ropes me into painting that is
looks like we have a decent size group building, will make for an awsome day of downhill! 12 of us so far, a second vehicle will be on the cards I think. If anyone has access to a ute or trailer, feel free to put your hand up.Failing that, the options are to use your cars with bike racks etc...or hire a ute, wont cost much between a few people. Less driving = more riding and a larger grin!
cheers, nate
guys im keen though not much chop at dh,but i have a van that we should be able to get a few bikes into, its old and im not precious about it...
on a reign you'll be fine. I'm using a reign x1 07 and that romps down there fine. you just take your time and chill. there's also a pretty cool single track to the side which isn't as hard but if anything beats the downhill just for pure smile factor.
thanks mate for offering your van, should work well. Any idea how many bikes/bodys you fit in there?
hey nate, well its only got to seats, but i rekon we should be able to get at least 5 bikes in it plus its got a big bumper bar ,so prob could get 1 or 2 on the back of it if we strapped em on
I also have a van, which is a hiace, had about 5 or 6 in there before. Plus I will bring my SLR camera to take some shots.
Benny
At this stage, I should be there.
cheers benny, with a couple of vans and my ute we should be in good shape.
Hate to put a downer on things, but the weather is looking better for Sunday
Saturday Showers/thunderstorms
Sunday Fine.
Hoping for the best! But probably too early to tell.
hmm never heard of an accurate 6 day weather report! just have to fingers crossed and hope for the best!
Another new fella, Matt, may be coming with us on Saturday. He has a Mitsubishi Express van that can shuttle some guys around too... right Matt?? Where are you??
FYI, I may be digging up that cancelled Red Hill ride for Sunday... so we can't reschudule this Ourimbah thing... not matter what the weather.
haha sound as keen as me ditty, lol yeh im so keen if its a bit showery im in anyways, will prob just stick to the xc course if thats the case though myself
I'm certain that Matt and bikemad are in fact the same entity, unless you were talking to another new matt? So it's two vans and my ute...good for the current group size.
-last time it rained up there we had one of our best outings!
I am the twisted bikemad, firestarting bikemad, woo woo,woo woo.....well there is a couple of us living in this noggin but matt and bikemad are one in the same.(and yes my medication is going along swimmingly, thankyou for asking!!)
Rain will only encourage me more. The blokes at the bike shop also encourage me to go out riding in the mud, rain, wet sand and puddles, don't know why. I am good friends with the guys at the bike shop, me and the bike are there all the time.
Benny
them crafty them bike shop operators they are!!
Can't make it this sat unfortunately due to family commitments - we have to pack to go to Tassie and organise a garage sale of stuff to get rid of!
Have fun guys, i'm sure you will
i'll have enough bangers for 1 more person so let me know if anyone wants em?
I bought a pack of 20 or so sausages to plenty to share
I'm bringing some bread and a dozen snag's.
Yum, Yum, Yum. See you blokes on Saturday.
I will bring some drinks and plastic cups
heya folks, whats the deal if its raining,it gets canned or we attempt it anyway, also by the amount of traffic going (crawling)by my place this arvo(busy rd in willoughby)everyone might want to allow another hr to get em selves there.fingers crossed alls good, will be my first ourimbah venture and am mightily lookin foreward to it.
are you mountain bike riders or roadies?!!!!
seriously ... you lot are obsessed with the weather forecast - it says light showers for Sydney but the chart shows no rain at all
have fun
yeah we'll defs be there even if its raining! i've heard wet snags are quite the delicacy... we'll bring bread and snags as well so combined we'll have enough to feed an entire nobmob.
ps. ah the joys of living north of ourimbah and coming down rather than catching the traffic going up! its actually only 15min from my house.
rub it in! yeh rain or shine ill be there with bells on..ourimbah is still tops when wet
i would say that if it is raining it might be an idea to stay off the DH course. For safety and for the damage that it causes to the track.
yeh if its heavy ill prob just stick to the xc myself, see what happens though eh lets be positive damn it hehe
I just brought a new DH helmet for tomorrow so i will be there and keen to do the Downhill, unless it is too wet.
Benny
Hi all, I'm aiming to leave about 7.30 from harbord in case there is some traffic, that is unless the weather is extra shitty.
what do girls/men have to do with mountain bike riders or roadies?
As Robbie McEwen said ... "watch real tough guys!"
Good news most of todays rain fell last night , just checked the radar there are still some light showers around Newcastle but will clear through the day see you all there , especially keen to see Alex riding the DH with bells and tinsel.
see you there....or in the traffic! If you end up late due to traffic, the others may do a loop of the xc...just hang around at the cars and join in later.
Thanks again Nate for a great day at Ourimbah , suppling the" you bute ute" and the BBQ , cheap snags never tasted so good after a good day of riding. Fun day with no injuries or broken bike bits.
A great turn out of nobs the track was great as usual , love that DH .Thanks Lee for pushing me to do the gap jump and for giving me a laugh at your tail gate tumble Merry Christmas to all and have a safe holiday see you at the next Ourimbah day.
