Rear derailleur advice
Hi everyone,
I had a big damage on my rear derailleur yesterday (a tree branch broke it ! damn it) so it is time to buy another one. Previously I had a 9-speed SRAM X5, provided with my TREK6000 series. I don't mind shimano or SRAM or whatever... What sort of good one you guys can advise for roughly 100doll (+/- 50) ?
I've seen chainreactioncycles has a pretty good range of derailleurs but the question is which one to pick up...

You're not going to do much better for that money. Just make sure cage length is correct

I'd stay with SRAM so you don't have to get a new shifter as well, having said that keeping your old shifter (assuming it's X5 level) will mean you don't get the best of of a new RD so you could upgrade at the same time.
I'd get the second hand 9 speed X0 for sale on the forum, until a couple of years ago it was the best you could get and getting the XX (the new level they put above it) just doesn't make sense for non-racers. That way you don't have to change a thing if you don't want to

You can have the shifters, Matchmakers and mech for $160?
Thanks guys. Indeed I am not racing a lot. I am on adventure race and MTBO so not sure if I need a super fancy one.
I never thought of buying a second hand neither but well why not ! let me think of it.
I have to look if that will fit on my bike.

Do you have a pic of it ?
Matchmakers let you combine the clamps for SRAM shifters and Avid brakes to clean up the bar, nice but not mandatory. I run X0 shifter and XT brakes and it's fine
Talk to Gazza and get both the shifter and the rear mech. You will notice the difference between those and your old set up and you'll do it cheaper than you were prepared to spend on just the rear mech.
