Bike insuarance - certainly worth it
NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.
About two weeks ago my 2010 Anthem X2 was stolen whilst staying at a caravan park. Luckily I had it insured and after several phone calls I received a cheque today from my insurance company to buy a new bike from my LBS. All in all it was an easy process and I would recommended that if you can insure your bike.
For those interested it was listed as a specified portable item ($13 per month) on my contents policy with QBE.

.... how much excess if any did you need to pay and what amount did they pay out?
$100 excess. I needed a written quote from the store I bought it from giving rrp at time of purchase (2899) list of accessories (xt pedals chain stay protector etc) and quote on comparable bike (went with a 2013 specislized camber) once they had all that sent put a cheque for sbout 3k made payable to bike store covering rrp for everything -100 for excess
that does sound very fair and reasonable.
A mate had his pride and joy stolen recently, his insurance company tried to offer him vouchers for Rebel sport.
What insurance company was that?
Qbe
Brian if that question was to me then I have to say it is Not Really My Answer to give out. In the end he did get a cheque so was happy with the outcome but it did take a little bit "discussion" to get that result.
Yeah kit that was a question for you.
Sounds like a good outcome. Did your premiums go up?
Nice one.
@BT, Now you point it out I get it
who, me?
When my bike was stolen a few years ago, the next years premium jumped over 100%. I changed insurance providers.
I was with ANZ insurance at the time, but I forget who underwrites them sorry...
