Stromlo / Capital Punishment Advice Needed
The only time I have ridden at Stromlo was during last year's Capital Punishment, and I was a bit slow on the final descent. I'll be at Stromlo this weekend but only for about 2 hours... Can anyone give me advice on the best loop to ride to prepare for Capital Punishment 2013? I'm doing the 50km, and as far as I know they haven't announced the route yet. But it's generally my descending skills I want to work on, so any advice on how I can best spend my time there would be welcome.

Loop 2 is short and sweet. You get to climb the switchback climbs all the way to the top and it's all downhill from the top, about 10 mins of downhill.
Loop 6 is longer and have some challenging climb at the beginning. Some flat bits and nice fast flowy tracks like double dissolution.
Loop 4 is probably the longest it takes you around the whole of Stromlo, nice rocky techy bits on the eastern side of Stromlo.
If it was me and I only have 2 hours to ride, I'd probably ride Loop 4 and if I have a spare time do Loop 2. Loop 2 gave me the most smile.
Either way you can't go wrong with any loops at Stromlo
Is the loop 2 downhill the same downhill as the 2012 Capital Punishment?
I wouldn't know.
Skyline and luge are on loop 2
This is someone else's youtube clip on the descent on loop 2

The looog..the luge..that really bearmed track, go down that bit..from the covered bridge...its siiiiick, it was part of it last time i did it, watch out for the little gap jump....but its make able................enjoy
OK, great - I'll give loop2 a go, sounds like its The Luge I need to practise on.
... but it looks like Luge will be worth checking out if you're scoping the track for the 50. This from the CP web site today:
..."(the 50) starting at The National Arboretum (approval pending) will allow for a stunning spot to begin, no untimed section and a good distance of fire trail prior to the first single track preventing any congestion and allowing for much more excellent single track in Stromlo Forest Park. The 50k will still be able to use the main Stromlo loop including Skyline and Luge without affecting the faster 100km riders unlike the situation in 2012 where the elite 100k riders had to pass over 100 of the slower 50k riders in the last 5km descent. Stromlo is fantastic. The Stromlo maintenance crew have done a huge amount of work to upgrade almost all of the main loop with plenty more upgrades to come on most other trails in the next months. The 50k will be an awesome course. We will make the announcement as soon as we can, hopefully early next week".
Sounds like there might be a bit more to do after coming down Luge - maybe another 20 km out the back of Stromlo somewhere to get the 50 km riders out of the way of the elites???
Sounds like it could be an improvement on 2012. Having an untimed section in the middle of such a short distance was a bit weird.
might want to ask on the local forum down there called The Berm. As far as I can understand they are helpful and local knowledge is, afterall, the best
Not saying that the replies here weren't good...
