has anyone got advice on good night riding glasses and where to get them from?
I have heard that safety glasses are the go - are there better brands than others?

Cheers

got some decent ones from bunnings at Narrabeen for $8

they look 'stylish'/sporty enough.. they've got UV protection as well for overcast/glarey days

Clear yellow if your workplace has them.
They make everything stand out.
Dont wear them during the day, cause they let in bad light for your eyes.

Quote, "Dont wear them during the day, cause they let in bad light for your eyes."

What's that about then Wal? My Endura cycling glasses came with a clear lens for night riding, and a yellow one for "low light/overcast conditions". And I remember from my gliding/paragliding days we all wore yellow lenses to help differentiate different densities of clouds.

Good quality glasses usually have an element of protection from the any nasty light. however safety glasses are usually cheaper plastic with colouring in it.
Going with the flow of the topic name of "safety glasses", I have been warned several times they don't have the protection of the more expensive riding glasses and not to wear them out on sunny days as safety glasses.

For low light or night riding I would recomend yellow "safety" glasses as compared to clear "safety" glasses.

As for expensive driving or riding glasses.. well its all about how much you can afford to spend.

My daytime role is as a National HSE Manager and I've been down this road before!

The Yellow glasses are a good choice for average days and overcast conditions. I wouldn't advocate them in bright daylight - that's not the intent of that shade.

Here is the Eyres spec sheet for their "Amber" cheapies:

Click on the lenses tab. Bunnings have equivalents - I see heaps of guys wearing them - Including those I KNOW can afford top o' the Wazzer glasses.

For what it's worth - clears for night rides are fine - there are no UV spectrum rays to filter out...

They would be just fine for night riding. I wear BBB yellows in the morning riding to work in the dark - I love what they do to green traffic lights Eye-wink

Make sure you take your helmet with you when you try the glasses on. I've got safetys that fit perfectly but with a helmet, the straps interfere enough to make them unwearable, at least for riding.

Btw I've been night riding for a couple of years now using clears of all sorts of different brands. My only preference is ones that fit well. I've never seen yellow safety glasses but have used very lightly tinted ones. Didn't like them, made everything slightly darker, funny that. Also dont like black rims, i prefer rimless.

imho get some clears that fit well and you'll be fine.

Safety glasses all the way.

Ironically, despite the low cost, they are actually regulated to a higher standard than expensive sports glasses. This is because they must satisfy a range of OHS standards for UV, Impact resistance etc.

And as some of the earlier posts mention, they now come in styles that look the same as expensive sports sunnies.

Thanks All

I got some "UV Wraps" for $14 from Bunnings which are pretty sweet. Nb Bunnings in Warringah Mall doesn't have a great selection so its probably best to try the Belrose or Manly Vale stores.
Will get those Anaconda 3-lenses too - what a steal!

I have those glasses and they are definately not safety glasses. Most safety glasses will be stamped with AS/NZS 1337 somewhere. However they are still great glasses for the price. Just dont expect them to be shatterproof and the like.
