Dicko gets the Marathon Champs title!
A long time Nobmobber has just gone and got himself a win up in Atherton for the National Marathon Champs.
Wayne Dickinson came from third in Masters on the second lap to a first place on the final lap.
Awesome result on what was meant to be a bloody tough course with 1000mtrs climbing per each of its 33km laps.
Also well Done to Brian in vets who came from around 7th to get 4th at the finish. So close to a podium Mate!

Antsonline, looks like he had something go wrong and only completed 1 lap out of 3.
I know he was on form so he's either had a shitty day or a mechanical?
He wasn't alone as I've seen a few of the big hitters didn't manage to finish.
Hard luck Mate although you must be happy with being a coach to two of the winners in Jenny Fay and Dicko?
I think we need to talk about some coaching for me?
Well done Dicko. Sounds like the hard work has paid off.
That's a shame about Anthony... Between illness, mechanicals and disappearing bikes he's had a bad run. Hopefully the stars will align for him at the Convict.
Followed the race live today and couldn't believe how tough it was. The winner normally does these things in about 4hrs flat. Jason English did about 5:15 for the win. Course must have been brutal.
Great work @dicko. He doesn't just pedal fast but races strategically. Him and Jason English were the only ones I saw come in on the 3rd & final lap in a faster time than their 2nd lap. The rest of the field got significantly slower each lap. Great work @dicko - legend!
@ Dicko and Brian. Huge respect for your efforts! Great achievement.
Keep it going.
Ben
Great work D, well deserved for all your hard work. we are all very proud of you.
Craig & Cece
congratulations on a fantastic result .

Fantastic effort boys ! Congrats Dicko and well done Brian
Will be very interested to hear the reports on how tough it was.... the lap time blow outs and DNFs look amazing
Bad luck Ants. The Convict awaits
Awesome effort by Dicko, to win when the first 4 places were separated by 9 minutes will be very rewarding. I suspect its also possibly Brian's best race, less than 4 minutes off the podium, keep up the hard work.
Excellent effort from Jenny Fay to win the race and break Peta in the process. I think that makes it one loss in a marathon in the last 3 or so years. Also the benchmark for the older male classes is to beat the elite women. I have finished in front of most of the other girls but have never beaten Jenny in a marathon race. She is so consistent and again finished in front of the Masters and SuperMaster men.
Nice work fellas
Well done gents, look forward to reading your blog entries.
Woot! Nice work lads. Congratulations.
@fatboy. My 3rd lap was faster then my second. A few caffeine gels helped there
Awesome work @Brian. Look forward to all your race reports. Glad I chickened out of going when I saw the amount of climbing. I would have struggled to finish before the clock hit Monday ...
Thks Gazza and too all others with their kind words of support.
I will put in a write up with all the details in later in the week.

I'll wait for Dicko's write-up, so wont share too much of the racing, but I can share that it was very exciting, very close racing over nearly 7hrs, and also a heroic effort from both himself and Brian to finish.
From a 'coaching' perspective - yes - I was delighted to see Wayne acheive a number of his goals (winning wasnt the only one) and also to see Jenny win was great in what was her last race 'coached' by me. Brian put in one hell of a ride to finish. 4th place in the Veteran Nat Champs in that sort of day is a testament to the quiet hard work he puts in. He very very nearly packed in at 2laps done (5hours of riding +/-) but we pretty much forced him back out against his will. Great ride. Our housemate and friend (in Atherton) Mick Crosbie also won the U23's - so all told it was a good day.
Kyle rode incredibly well until he, like others, just wilted. The list of non-finishers is incredible, and there is some talk that it was just a step too far. Too tough - even for Champs. I dont agree, I think it was fair, and tough - either way, it will go down as one of the hardest races ever put on by MTBA.
My english blood just doesnt cope with that sort of heat. I did pretty much everything I could have done (ice vests, frozen drinks, thinnest jersey possible etc) but going up the first climb, in 30 degree heat, direct sunlight, I was covered in goosebumps and literally pedalling backwards. Thats for the kind thoughts all of you - 2013 has been a nightmare season so far for reasons documented above. It'll get better I'm sure.
Probably see you at the Convict (although I am pretty much over this for a while now).....
