Cracked free wheels after 6 months
Anyone ever seen anything like this? Looks like a casting fault that has resulted in a fracture on the free wheel. Only 6 months old. Could be a warranty job me thinks

happened twice on my alloy hope hubs. Switched to steel and it hasn't been an issue since.
Warrantied on both occasions
for sue
XT hub?
seen it a couple of times before. I've got a hope hub ready to go into my 29" XT wheel when this happens.
Centre lock though so limited with replacement options unless I swap out discs as well to 6 bolt
Yeah, that is a problem, but rotors aren't that dear and well worth it when you can put in a super reliable hub. It's a shame, coz they are a bloody good wheel. But it seems it's a reasonably common problem.
Expect it would be covered by warranty, but if not you can just replace the freehub. I've had to do it on my Shimano hub (Deore level though) and picked up a new freehub from by LBS. Good excuse for an upgrade though

I am not taking the cassette of my new wheels!
I couldn't ride it when it broke so exploratory surgery was required. Didn't find it until I removed the cassette. With the Giant shop in CBD now and with a bit of luck warranty job
Sure looks like a warranty job to me. But out of interest when I needed a new Shimano XT freehub recently I found it was cheaper to buy a complete rear hub online from Europe ($40), than just a freehub locally, and you get a spare axle/cones/bearings/QR as a bonus.
I'm currently looking at getting a custom rear wheel built and was going to go with an XT hub but this has put me off slightly. What do people recommend as an alternative ?
Sorry for thread hijack.

I love my American Classic Disc Hub. Quiet. Had it for 6 months and works like new. Alloy freehub body with steel inserts so it doesn't notch up.
