Glue that doesn't set anymore?

I had the nice experience yesterday at Yellowmundew to find out that glue to affix the patch on the tube… do sometime not set anymore!

Fixed my wheel once after a small puncture, then after 200m had to redo it again – and had confirmation after another 200m that the glue doesn't set. Thankfully I had another new tube with me and could enjoy the 3/4 of the trail.

Have to remember tonight to remove it from my backpack.

Btw, when you have a puncture on the inside, and there is nothing sharp on the rim… would that be because I had too much pressure?

If there's a hole in the rim tape and you pump up your tyre pretty hard the tube can get pierced by the end of a spoke. Check your rim tape.

I like to use adhesive patches to remove the need for glue although I have heard from another user they wont stick if they get wet.

A hole in the tyre may be to small to see when deflated but once inflated the hole may be open enough for the tube to be exposed to the trail surface.

Are you letting the glue dry before pressing the patch on?

Supposed to wait a minute?

You need to wait about five minutes. Wait until it's touch dry, in other words, until it doesn't stick to your fingers. You put glue on the patch and the tube. When they're both touch dry you press them together as hard as you can and hold it for about five minutes. Don't inflate to a high pressure until its in the tyre.

I've left drying 2-3 minutes before putting the patch… will try again one of those evening by letting drying longer.
Thanks for the rim tape tip, will check that on the same evening.
