4 hours
Come Rain or Shine:
If it's raining, I won't be there.
Ride Database Entry:
Menai (Lucas Heights) Details:
Menai here we come!
Have been there only once but from what I remember: beautiful forest, single track, nice climbs, technical stuff, north shore playground for anybody who dares (I'll only be brave enough to hold the camera), fire trail, rock gardens, gullies.... would anybody be interested in some of this???
Would be great to do a nice longish ride. Maybe not super slow but with time to play if we want to. (Will take my leg guards this time!)
Make sure to bring mosquito repellent too.

look forward to this ride a lot and btw:
" young man
You stay in the good books and I'll organise the ride " ....well done Caro.
You know, we "old" guys over 40 are a little bit inpatient, because when you get a leave pass you get very, very inpatient!!!!!
Bernd
and yes, your also impatient
I'm in..
Perhaps using a selection of 'roids to ensure YOU'RE fully healed ;-}
Ped(al)ant
Matt.
[who has clearly been riding road too much lately ;-}]
Hehe!
Bernd, I always knew you lot are inpatients but so far I thought that you were the: over 40, 'cool and relaxed' posse! As opposed to me the: under 40, always inpatient and waaaay too excited one.
Anyway... am looking forward, can't wait!
4 more sleeps!
...I'm in, unless someone thinks this one is too difficult for a newby. Anke
Anke, unless you ride with training wheels im sure youll be fine!!these bigger group rides are never fast, and no one expects anyone to ride beyond their capabilities.
I've just got my bike back from the hospital and had them put a set of training wheels on it. Helps with the balance apparently. Does this mean I shouldn't come?
oh course youll be right andy, just have to watch the tight single tracks!! oh and i do hope you have tassels on your bar ends!
I was there on Sunday morning. Conditions were good after the recent rain (Menai is sandy so the rain packs it down nicely).
Keep an eye out for the see - saw as well!
I'm Matt P. I'm different to Matt although Matt is also a Matt P. Matt P should not be confused with Matt.
just didn't match the bike. So I have put them on my nipples instead. Match my skin tone and very blingy.
I would not try to talk you out of going. But you may want to look at the photos of our last ride out to Menai late last year. There are some quite rocky sections.
http://nobmob.com/image/tid/586
However if you can ride down most, if not all, of the rocky Manly Dam sections, then Menai should prove managable too. So are you up for a 4+ hour ride?? Bring it on I say!!
Cheers.
...there for my Manly Dam maiden cruise. Due to the wet weather and unknown territory I walked quite a few of the more challenging sections on Manly Dam (rocky ones). But if I don’t try, I won’t learn. I am not worried about the 4 hours. I’ve done 18km bush walks, I run and I go to the gym, so fitness-wise 4 hours should be fine. What does everyone else think…too challenging for a beginner?
it's fine to walk whatever you don't feel comfortable with. I do. You'll only wind up walking the hardest sections, if any, but you can watch the others and pick up tips. And if you keep coming on rides, you won't be a beginner for long.
i wouldnt worry too much about the 4hrs ride time, with a large group you are going to have to have lots of regroups which means lots of stopping and waiting around. There will also be lots of "play" opportunities where some will jump off massive boulders and stuff, you can rest at these points also to catch your breath, out of 4hrs actual time you may ride for 2-2.5 and do 20-30km at best.
Get out there, have fun and explore is the main point of these rides
Don (who wont be going as my legs are tired after 300 roadie km's in the last week plus have to babysit)
Correct. I do remember you from that day at Manly Dam.
See you on Sunday!
i might be in for this one, but is bloody early for me, ill have to call it on sat night!
Somewhere new to ride I will be there see how we go with the confidence building on new tracks.
can anyone fit an overweight pommy in their car on this trip? Stopping in avalon on sat night but will meet at any place suggested. Dont want to take the old ute on a drive as its well overdue for a service and dont want to push my luck.
...I have 3 bike's in my FAST VW Van already!
Bernd
Besides Gazza won't mind if you tie that old bike of his to the roof and apparently after his holiday he will make a nice, soft foot stool for the guys in the back
I'll give you a lift no worries. Either make your way to me at Freshie or I'll pick you up locally, OX falls or wherever. 0406 531 632 or PM me for the address if your keen.
but ill go with nate. Its a bit closer to meet him and i dont think i could handle being stuck with your constant bad whit and sarcasm for a whole hour ill be in touch thanks nate.
Hey, anyone with a spot in their vehicle i can jump in? I'm coming from Epping but will travel anywhere. Thanks in advance.
I'm coming from Vaucluse,so if you can get yourself to Central, I'll pick you up on the way. Anke
Wow, this is huuuge!! Glad all you guys are coming along.
i think it was my comments regarding the nipple tassles
Must... get... rid... of... mental... image...
count me in! this will be my first NobMob ride. Looking forward to it. A good chance to break-in the new bike and bust the confidence barrier after splitting my radius last year.
Given this is such a big ride, can I just emphasise that it'd be great if everyone were there and ready at 8am. Also if those who are leading or know where they want to go take charge and lead the way early.
Please make sure your bike is in tip top condition before 8am tomorrow too, if you need anything looked at that you're unsure of then turn up ten minutes early and ask as there's some handy wrenchers in the group.
Ta,
Matt.
(Who isn't so grumpy in person... and is very much looking forward to tomorrow ;-} )
PS - Hope you've packed at least a couple of inner tubes Liam, my money's on at least two punctures tomorrow!
Sound advice from the man who is not that grumpy in real life.
Ev
but he is a grumpy sod though!!!
Coming from a northerner that's a compliment ;-} See you bright and early tomorrow.
Night,
Matt.
im *hic* out...
Nicely said for a grumpy inner wester
Am crossing my fingers for as few technicals as possible! What are the odds with 20plus people? Oops!
Only two more hours!!
How exciting
And sorry to all and especially matt for being late and holding up the ride
one of the best trails ive ridden in a long time. nice to meet new guys and girl! cant wait to get down there again sometime soon.
Thanks Caro for organising the ride today some of the nicest trails I've ridden in ages.
Thanks for the lift Bernd, after Four hours in the saddle it was great not to have to drive all the way across town.
Must go back for another ride, so many track to explore, had a blast
great group and great ride. definately some more exploration needed of this place.
Thanks for organizing a great ride Caro.
That was the one of the best rides ive had in Sydney looks like there would be a whole lot more to explore in there.
I definitely would like to tackle those trails again.
Thats Caro and Liam - great stuff
thanks guys for the great ride!
Big thanks to Liam for taking on the unrewarding and difficult job of navigating us through this maze of fantastic tracks! (Especially after having been there only once!) Love your work!!
Nice to meet all the people I hadn't ridden with before.
Matt and Steve thank you for some inspirational north shore riding! Love watching you ride. Hopefully in my next life
And now that we are all home and safe can I just say that we had not a SINGLE flat!!!!!
Considering 23 people and about 5 hours on the track quite a miracle I'd say.
That's all I have to say, soo tired after all that time in the sun.
(Can we start at 6am again next time? Gotta love the early mornings pikey )
Over and out...
ditto, ditto,
it was very, very nice and yes we should start at 6am!!!
Matt and Steve.... cool sh**t look's so easy!
23 of us? not bad.
next time we stop next to motor power'd 2 wheels I will WANT one!
Thanks Caro + Liam, well done a big fun ride.
Bernd
Great ride, great people!
looking forward to the next one. Not so sure how i feel about a Sunday 6am start Caro. bigg thanks to Liam for taking the reins.i want some more please.
Hi all... sounds like another top ride. Have created a gallery for your pics here:
http://nobmob.com/image/tid/732
You really would think I now have time to add that 'create me a gallery for this ride' button now, wouldn't you?
To all,
Thanks for all coming along and sharing in the fun. Thanks to Carolin for playing ride host. Great idea, and great weather. We should leave you in charge all the time. There wouldn't be too many nay's to that.
Fantastic ride, as we did a couple of 'new' trails in there on Sunday. It will be cool to find some more new ones. I think we are all spoiled for choice! Can't wait to do them all!
As some have said already... we will be there again soon. A rider with a GPS track would also greatly help too. My memory is no substitute for a machine.
it was a beauty, even with my pounding head and slightly blurred vision!id be up for hitting it again next sat if anyone was keen
... to everyone for an enjoyable ride. Special thanks to Caro for organising and making sure I didn't stay behind. See you all soon, Anke
