Similar Bike to Giant Reign 2?
NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.
I was just wondering if anyone knows any bikes similar to the Giant Reign 2 or were to test one still in stock? It seems Giant has discontinued that range and replacing it with something by the name of FX in August.
Just to clarify I'm looking for a 150+mm travel bike that is mainly for decent's but still light enough to ride up hills, any ideas would be appreciated.
Cheers

Get a Santa Cruz Heckler. Cheap(ish), proven, classic all mountain machine. Climbs like a mountain goat and goes down as fast as you want. Ive thrashed mine for nearly 4 years and cant fault it. Its pretty much bomb proof.

commencal meta am. looks nice
got a mate with a medium 2010 reign 1, the blue one, excellent condition, great spec, all original, hasnt been riden for six months due to other commitments, 1000 bucks firm
Picked up MBR mag at the newsagent today and they compare a number of bikes in the same category as the Reign 1.
Have a look at the polygon .. they are going for a song at the moment

Intense Carbine
I have owned 2 Giant Reigns and have just moved to a 27.5 carbine and love it. So much better than the reign. Belrose bikes can get them in. I can always give you a spin on mine if you want.
keep out of the convers till you get a bike yourself ,then you can add your two bobs worth !!!!
Thanks for all the reply's, right now the Heckler and Carbine look quite good, the polygon is quite heavy and the Commencal (and Carbine really) is a bit out of my budget... The Carbine has quite short travel which is not entirely ideal, out of curiosity why didn't you like the Giant as much?
Cheers
Not sure where your budget is ( maybe I should read the whole thread) but there's alot out there available. I opted for a 2012 enduro evo. I (try to) ride the freakin wheels of it and it's awesome from blastin downhiills to doing the convict. It does it all, it's a bit porky on the uphills but a 22 front granny ring all's good. I ride it to have coffee, I'm taking it to the French Alps. Yeah, I'm being bias, I've ridden a mates cannondale jekyll (awesome) I'd own one. Yeti SB, woooo so good, hired a mojo hd, Holy $h#t don't start me. Truth is get something half decent with a say 66-67deg head tube angle and you'll cream everything
The carbine has exactly the same travel as the reign! 150mm. You might have been looking at the carbine SL which has less travel.
Moving from a 2012 Reign to a Carbine I can tell you they are both great bikes but the carbine is so much better.
because my brother has a commencal meta am
defence his and his brothers Meta purchase on paper for geometry and specs seem like they may be worth a look.
He's just spent months combing forums and websites asking this question. No matter how much people suggested he bought a Reign he wanted something else.
Might be outside the budget, and a bit short on travel, but the big wheels eat the bumps, the short stem and wide bars are great for descending and when it's time to climb back up to where you started flipping a lever shortens the rear travel and steepens the head tube for better climbing geometry.
Had a brief ride on one at Kiwarrak and loved it. It's a bit portly with the fox fork and Hans Dampf tyres, but make it tubeless and put lighter tyres on and it would be an awesome all-rounder.
Just look at this and make an offer:
