Dirt Works 2008 - Terrain question
Hi there
A few friends and myself have enrolled in the Dirt Works 2008 and have little idea what to expect terrain wise. We are currently training on Manly Dam, Bantry Bay and surrounds but I was wondering if the actual race is going to be less technical and more fire trails.
Has anyone done it that could help? If it is more fire trails we could be better off training at Oxford Falls, cascades and that sort of thing instead.
Anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Dylan

Are you doing the 50 or 100?
On the 100 expect a couple of sections around 10Km long of unrelenting techie fun!
Don't think there is that much on the 50.
Have a look in the GNR gallery:

Or galleries of specific rides at GNR:

dw 50 is all firetrail, no techie bits at all.
the dw 100 is all firetrail except for 10-15km on the great north road, this is awesome techie riding (bit tiring though after already having completed 60km). So basically train on fietrail stuff and get as many km/s in as possible.
Cheers guys, great info.
ATM we are all doing the 100. If my training isn't up to scratch closer to the event then I will downgrade to the 50. I am currently riding around 28KM's once a week and am starting evening rides as well. The techy stuff is fine for me as long as I have enough strength left in my body, otherwise I'm just plain dangerous on down hills
I think we will have to fit in some longer file trail based rides then, probably build something around the Davidson tracks tomorrow night.
I'm guessing there isn't anything steeper on the dirt works run that we have around here? An idea would be good.

Ho, ho, ho... profile of last (this - it's the same course) year's 100Km:
http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/invitation/da...
Notice the first hill is a 200 vertical metre 'wall'. Most will be walking that - it's no shame. The second huge climb and subsequent 'pinches' on the following ridge are killers, especially after 75Ks.
The second peak and ridge is Womerah Range - I will be wanting to go ride that as part of the training. We've spoken a lot about this stuff.
The techie 'good stuff' is from the top of the climb directly after 50Km point onwards. From there until you hit the road at the bottom of the hill (Shepherds Gully) at around 66Km.
It's a blast - if you train well (you should be able to ride 50-60Km without really feeling any after effects) you'll love it!
Hi Dylan,
If you want something similar, head to the Blueys... Andersons in particular... combine that with the Oaks & you have a better framework for your training. Thrown in St Helenas (there & back) for good measure...
Hi all,
I use mapmyride....just wanted to share the dirtworks 100km map.
