I am now riding to work on Wednesdays. Bummer!

We rode this trail yesterday and it was fine no poo water just a lot of dried poo.

This will be my first ride at Terry Hills am I correct in assuming its not a dificult ride and that I should be ok to attempt it for the first time at night or should I check it out in the day first. I have ridden Manly at night no problem and I have more than enough light for that sort of terrain.
Good idea or not?

Hey, if you can ride Manly Dam at night then Terrey Hills will pose no problems. Only thing to look out for are the water bars on the faster sections. They sure can freak you out if you can't see over to the landing! Eye-wink

Hey Damien,

Good to see/hear that you're on the mend and out riding again.

THills will be a breeze for you mate, nothing to worry about. There's one steep corner on Long track that can become a little loose after some heavy rains, but still doable (up & down).

Have fun Cool

It was dry on Sunday. It's a great trail to push the speed a bit as most of it is nice to come off on. As a newbie I'm trying to get my front wheel to drift but it just won't happen. I'm scared to go fast enough to make it drift. I read about this drifting stuff in the Australian MTB Magazine tire review. I tried Sunday but kept chickening out. It's a Continental Gravity so it's super chunky, maybe thats why? I think I'm just being a pussy. One of you pros can show me how it's done without ending up in the scrub.

Cya there with bells on, I mean 'with lights on'.

Well personally I try not to get the front wheel to drift. I usually end up on the deck when that happens.

Rear wheel on the other hand happens to me sometimes if cornering and the surface is a bit loose.

But I'm not skillful enough to be drifting my bike around. If it happens then it happens Sticking out tongue But usually it's not intentional!

sam hill did a big write up on drifting in a recent AMB issue, if anyone knows, he does! it has step by steps from early technique through to full blown drifting race style, i highly recomend..it was about 3 issues ago i think if you can get one, the gist was though to practise unweighting your front, then grabbing a fistful of front brake to get the feel for it..same for rear but vice versa, then trying to do both at the same time, then trying to get that movement just with hips etc, and no brake!, im practising myself at the moment is hard but fun! nail that youll be flying around stuff! i like to use a bit of inner leg to dab the ground for psychological comfort, and u gotta keep that outside leg weighted too... another good trick ive been told recently is to aim your drift for a bump or elevated bit of soil or something, so as when you drift into that, youll carve in, rail it and itll throw you back upright to be on your merry way Smiling this im yet to do, but it makes sense..
good luck!

Thanks Alex, I have a stack of them on the Dining Room table. I'll print your tips and try to follow them. If people see some guy standing on the corner of a trail with a black Giant Yukon reading a bit of paper and scratching his head, that will be me!

Loz, week 12, can you believe it! Are Giant mining for the metal or something to build Buck and my trance X's. I got the delay news today.

just found it, its june/july 07 issue actually, and is a damn sight better than the info i just gave you now i remember it sorry! but yeh the gist is practise individual drift on both wheels, and then try turning your bike too once drifting by moving forward and moving your hips while maintaining a good center of grav over the bike to avoid falling (which can be saved by dabbing foot too if needed) but the general thing with all hat stuff is staying heaps loose..like all of it when u clench up its no good, im still trying to get out of that habit for that and jumping too..
if your hella keen and cant find it, im happy to part with it if you want, is a damn good read!

Thanks again Alex, I get the idea from your description. Maybe one day you could email me a photo of the article. Sounds pretty advanced though. I can flick the tail left and right but I don't feel ready for what your describing. Maybe it could be easier to learn on more roadish tires on a pee gravel trail.

If I'm not there by 19.30 don't wait
