All Mountain Bikes
Hi there.
I'm looking to upgrade to an all mountain bike in the next month or two, and have been seriously considering a 2013 Commencal Meta AM3 (can pick one up from Belrose for $2800). Has anyone got one or know people that do, or have any recommendations as to what people think are good (26er's)?
Price guide is $3500 give or take a bit.
Cheers.
Xavier.

There will probably be a ton of reviews on there.
reign on this site and there is a thread on alternatives to the Reign.
Lots of discussion on different bikes.
Then check out mtbr.com once you have a list of names. The mtbr site is best for reviews.
$3500 is a good realistic budget that gives options. Could be able to get some great stuff on special too.

This thing looks like Batmans bike and anyways in Australia Commencal wont hold hits value when specialized will.
I just picked up a Trek Remedy 9 (http://www.trekbikes.com/au/en/bikes/mountain/te...) and am really really happy with it. Trek appears to have a sale on them and you should be able to pick one up at the moment for $3500. They get good reviews.
Was in Manly Cycles today, they have a '12 enduro expert for $2400 I think it was. More than half the rrp. Wish I had never sold my one, the best bike I have owned. I sold my one a few months ago for same price but it was a 2010 frame with 2012 XO.
Worth checking it out
Giant's 2014 range will be out soon, featuring 27.5 (650b) wheel sizes.
Worth a look?
Tyre options are a bit limited for now, but that will be temporary. With Giant's sales "engine" influencing the market there will be greater choice in a very short time,
For $2400 at Manly cycles.
Enduros are great bikes that are now light enough to enjoy XC tracks and can handle with some skills everything at Oxy FR/DH.
650b/27.5 or 26 is a personal choice. Depends whether you want to roll more easily or ride the features more.
After years of riding my 26 Enduro everywhere, learning some skills and having it save my butt many times I have now gone to an AM hard tail so I have to ride the trail features even more. After a while I found my AM dually too much of a steam roller which is why personally I haven't gone to bigger wheels as this makes things even more so.
Buy a run out model!
I picked up my new Trek Slash for $3599, rrp $4999! It's one hell of a bike, real All Mountain bike.
Thanks guys, appreciate the advice. Will do some more looking around and let you know what my decision was when its made.
Cheers,
Xavier.
Looked for a price on a 2013 model, with RAM kit and Fox 32 Float CTD for $3699. From what I've read, everyone loves them and are truly one of the better All Mountain bikes to go for. I would like to try one out before I commit to the purchase, but the shops that I know of don't have any in stock. Anyone know of somewhere I could at least have a sit on or something?
Cheers.
XGP
look at the Neezy website
Sales are direct for a few samples old stock on heckler/frames/test bikes etc
Just back from the French Alps and there are alot of hire companies with Commencal's. I took my own bike and had a quick spin on one. They go alright, feel good. Interesting no bikes with over 26 inch wheels in that big mountain country.
Try Northern Beaches Cycles at Belrose or Narrabeen.
They are local Santa Cruz dealers.
I believe there may be a 2nd hand Heckler in the Narrabeen shop, very well specced and priced.
Heckler is about to be released as a 650B.
The Commencal Meta AM3 is a great bike, Belrose cycles will also look after you well.
I got a 2013 27.5 Intense Carbine from them and couldn't be happier!
Highly recommended!
Now there's a nice bike.
Tell me you got the red one!
Yep got the red. Love the bike to bits.
We did an epic all mountain ride today taking in the Davidson DH track down to cascades, back out to St Ives, single track back to terry hills, Bunning's AM track ot oxford falls, power lines decent, Bernie's down to oxford falls then finished off riding Ya Mum down to the parkway.
The Carbine is such a nice bike to ride. Spent 4 hours in the saddle today and it handled everything I threw at it with ease!
That bike at NBC is a great buy!
If you're looking at that sort of travel/money, take a look at the Orbea rallon or Occam. I probably sound like a broken record, but I love mine! I run a set of 36's on the front of my rallon and it's ability far exceeds my abilities. Handles every AM track on the beaches like it was born for it. Got mine through NBC and BB. Or if you don't want 150mm, look at the Occam with 120mm, you can put a 140mm fork on it no probs, putting it at the trail end of AM bikes.
VTSS, I've done a similar ride to the one you describe many times. Makes for a great ride! Although haven't done mum in ages, I've really got to get down that soon.
