Red Hill parking issues

Hi all,

I'm writing this as both a mountain biker and as a member of the Beacon Hill Rural Fire Brigade (located near the bottom of Willandra Rd).

Of late we've been having a few issues with mountain bikers parking in our station car park whilst they're riding Red Hill. Apart from the impact that the additional cars have on our ability to safely reverse the trucks into the station, the limited parking in the area also necessitates us parking our cars two-deep (not a problem for us because we know who owns each car, but certainly a problem if someone else parks there and we park them in!). In short, if we get paged out to a fire call, any cars that are already parked in the station may be parked in for any period of up to 12 hours.

We spoke to a group of three on Sunday morning who were rude and arrogant and chose to ignore our request because "there aren't any signs saying we can't park here", but I'm happy to presume that they're in the minority. I think most people honestly don't realise the problems that they're causing, so we've now ordered (at our own expense) a number of "Emergency Service Personnel Parking Only" signs. In the meantime, if you or any of your riding mates want to park around that area to ride Red Hill, please utilise the parking available on the opposite side of the road.

Happy riding!

Chris

Sorry you have to deal with tools like that. I feel bad that this can even happen. It is embarrassing for the entire sport. I use Red Hill semi-frequently and have never seen anyone park in that car park. Those people will be the death of our sport.

Though the station was closed a white Nissan Navara Specialized Enduro was there at about 9am. Seen him there before.

Yeah it is a bit embarrassing to have to deal with it. I seem to spend a lot of the time at the station convincing the other guys that not all cyclists are d1@kheads, but it makes it hard when you get a couple of clowns acting like that. Hopefully the new signs will sort things out. If not, one of our members is a towie so that should sort things out Sticking out tongue

If your signs don't do the trick have a word to the local constabulary. I've found them to be more than helpful when it comes to people taking liberties with emergency services parking. A few tickets and the word will get around. Another option is to park the offending vehicles in with your tankers. Inconvenience them as much as they're inconveniencing you.

Could someone from the MWMTB club (sorry dont know the official name) dolly up some simple but to the point A5 fliers advising how inconvenient / dangerous it is, leave them at the station and if they do it again, staff could put the fliers on the windscreen. Add to the notesthatif they repeatedly park there, pictures will be taken and distributed accordingly to the police, tow trucks, local bikie chapters etc.

But agree about using Rotorburn. Maybe even some photos of offending vehicles showing what the problems caused are (licence blocked out). Nothing like healthy peer pressure to change the minds of the dimwitted.....
