Hi, heading to New Zealand in two weeks

Any advice on a cheap and cheerful point and click digital.

Something that is easy to fit in a pocket and retrieve quickly.

Budget up to $150 maybe more.

Cheers

For that sort of money, you may be as well saving your money and using the camera on your phone. This is presuming you've got a decent phone (Galaxy S3 or S4, I phone 5)

... but if you want a camera specifically to take cycling, do this: Visit...

http://www.dpreview.com/products/search/cameras

... open the 'advanced' filters. Select 'Durability/sealing' then click 'Waterproof' and 'shockproof' below. Click 'Ultra compact' (no-one wants to carry a brick around). And you are left with a few Sony models that are both small and waterproof and shockproof:

DSC-TX20 - The 'older' model (Feb 2012). Available for around $200.
DSC-TX200V - No lens cover. Forget it.
DSC-TX30 - The 'newer' model (Feb 2013). Available for around $300.

I almost bought a TX20 last year, but in the end decided to rely on a smartphone when I didn't have a proper camera (a DLSR) to hand.

Anyhow - that camera finder link on DP Review is what you want. If you select a size other than the 'Ultra compact' there are more options. Browse around and away you go.

You can get some great photos with cheap cameras but all of them will require you to pan if you are taking photos in low light and sport or child mode usually helps quite a lot.

I would never buy a cheapish compact camera second hand unless you know the person, you need a warranty as many little cameras develop lens faults and randomly stop working, also the warranty people at Panasonic are a bunch of tards and I will never purchase another product that comes from Pana aUSTRALIA.

FujFilm Xp, you can pick one up for about $170, water, shock, dust and freeze proof. I have used mine for cycling, white water kayaking even snorkeling and still going strong.
