Update 7th Feb 2008
So this afternoon I went out to see the surgeon CT scans and x-rays in hand feeling a little nervous. Its been a long time off the bike and the last thing I wanted was news of another operation and three to six more months off the bike.

Scans below....
CT Scan repaired arm 1CT Scan 2

My progress has been ok, I now have most rotation back and I can totally straighten and bend my arm....as I walked in I thought to myself "be positive! there is nothing to be nervous about, your recovering well damn it!"

For those of you I hadn't told it was a scary meeting last with him....he was discussing removing the head of the radius altogether and thinking of either not putting anything back and letting the joint float on the ligaments etc, or, alternatively putting an artificial head in which could lead to wearing of the joint and arthritis to look forward to....oh great i thought just what we need!

So after waiting for close to an hour to see "Spengler" the surgeon sat me down and had a good look at the scans and was pleasantly surprised with the outcome of the past two months since my last visit. He had a good look at the CT scan especially and went through all facets of what could have gone wrong and why it looked so good.

So the verdict is NO SURGERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And the best bit is he said go riding (just don't fall off), lift weights go play and live life, so I'm sitting here now grinning from ear to ear thinking of the joys of getting back on the bike.

So in the next month or so expect me to post a return to mtb ride...somewhere easy like West Head or Terry Hills.

Can't wait to see you all on the trails sometime soon. Thanks to all for your positive support over the past 4 months, your a good bunch of friends.

Gotta get on the trainer and try to get fit Smiling
Cheers
Sam

that's a big relief for you mate and great news. 4 months is long enough for anyone to endure. with all the rain, you've only missed a few rides anyway - more or less. be good to see you back on your bike where you belong.

Are we doing a "Sam is back on the bike' next weekend then, when (not IF btw!!) the sun is shining and all the trails are dry again? Laughing out loud

There is nothing wrong with you at all.

You had been a naughty boy and you were grounded.
