Single Track Mind - Awaba - SXC Racing Teamwork

Perfect conditions and a fast track, greeted two SXC Racing Teams on the weekend. With the MTB season ramping backup, the Masters team have thought the STM series is a good way to sharpen their skills in readiness for some of the bigger races. Whilst Gary Harwood and Martine Robin in the Mixed Pairs are currently series leaders and wanted to add to their impressive results of the season.

Awaba is a great MTB venue, great track, and always brings plenty of competition. Both SXC Racing teams had plenty of competition but raced well from the start to set the pace, create a lead and extend on this through the day. Some new sections of track proved a little tricky in the first couple of laps, with some unplanned dismounts, but the 'smooth is fast' is fast race logic applied, everybody was racing at the front of the field.

Team work and consistency were the catch phrases of the day with both team lapping within one minute of the teams respective fastest and slowest laps of the day. the consistency showed in the results with both teams taking out 1st place in their categories - Awesome !

Some notable mentions, Gazza taking out fastest lap with the team again - I did get a little closer this time, but he is FAST for an old bloke. Martine 2nd fastest female lap of the day, only beaten by the current Aust u19 XC Champ, and finally Matt Russell, not the fastest or slowest of the day, but 4 identical 38 min laps shows he is Mr Consistent.

All in all a great day out, great team result and thanks to all who have supported the series and the team.
