hey im looking into getting a new bike next year, im thinking along the lines of lightweight hardtail thats suited for the xc races we have. with a budget im expecting to be $2000 to $3000aud much the same budget that i had for the trance.
so has anyone got any ideas or recomendations for a 'race ready' hardtail to fit the criteria.
thanks guys and gals

ps. if it helps im typically a large frame bike coz im 6' 2"

thanks for the link but it seems the bikes mentioned are a bit out of my realistic price range

what about something like a stumpy hardtail:

pretty sure that one (comp carbon) retails for $3k

that stumpy looks real nice....now im starting to wonder what people, especially the front runners were riding in the c2c the past couple of years

dave nairn won the state XC champs this year on a stumpy hardtail

but he prob would of won it on a giant reign .. he is a robot !

its not always the lightest greatest bike that makes you fast .. be fit , n strong and carry speed throu techy / slippery spots ..

best to test ride a HT for a ride around KC or similar see if you like it .
i thought id be better off on a bike 2kg lighter then my stumpy dually , but it took the enjoyment out of a ride for me .. everyone is different , best to test ride first or youll lose a heap of money like what i did.

dammit, now im thinking i may be better off getting a more xc oriented dually and in 29" coz i use that rear shock quite alot and especially for the longer rides it would be more comfortable

haha yea basically my thoughts too .. dually are more expensive and the 2-3k budget is very stretched to get something lightweight.(unless u find a nice 2nd hand)
but having a rear shock is worth it , esp on long rides . there is always shock lockout or pump 250 psi in it if you worried about a bit of pedal squat.

i think fitness makes u faster , not carbon bits and sub 10kg bikes .

honestly if your serious about racing spend more on getting out riding then on a bling bike that u train/ride once a week.

even at the moment ive got quite an intense riding and fitness regime for someone who is not racing anyway
i do a ride of about 20km 3 times a week, i treat this as a sprint, and then every weekend i ride about 70km on either saturday or sunday.
and now summer is around and year 12 is about over i can get back into the epic night riding aswell
