Plans for Glenrock 2014??
NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.
Apart from the great work done on Shaft, 2013 has been a bit dismal for Glenrock...with the 'closure' of the southern trails I expected NPWS to be able to apply more resources to 'maintaining and improving the northern trails'. Lately all I have seen is an increase in illegal trail modification, wet weather damage, motorbikes, erosion and and a bag of rubbish at the picnic table that has been there for months...
Is there any positive news for 2014? Every time I ride Awaba it shits me how good Glenrock could be...

I've got similar observations to the ones you've raised above. It's frustrating. I did a lap at sunset yesterday afternoon. Really enjoyed it. I thought I had the whole place to myself until I got to high roller. From that point I only saw 3 people along the rest of the way - plus their 5 unleashed dogs between them.
Dogs like chasing bikes I've noticed. I'm not sure what's worse: a yapping dog or the screeching bogan chasing it bellowing for it to come back.
I've raised this issue previously - pedestrians on tight single track walking in the wrong direction. The advice I was given via a pretty little picture was that cyclists should "yield" to pedestrians. Happy to do that, but it also grates more than just a little when those same pedestrians think so little of park, those who they share it with as well as the animals in their care.
Good ride though, like I said. Great conditions. While the issues I've mentioned here (and the ones above) continue to get worse, Glenrock continues to be a great place to ride.
I've been meaning to put my thoughts down on 2013 and where the whole things heading.
Right now, obviously not a lot is happening.
There is no ranger dealing specifically with Glenrock which has made things hard. We were supposed to have had a review of the POM kicked off about now dealing with the south of the park and revisiting access, but with no ranger.....no action.
The revised POM was also going to look at allowing us to step off the corridor in repairs (would have radically changed the outcomes on Grass Tree, BJ's and parts of Shaft), as well as allowing a few new trails in the north.
So where to from here.
I want to start with actually formalising the GTA into a proper incorporated entity with a full committee. Id like to set it up with no defined figure head as such (i.e. president), just defined roles constituting a committee which make the decisions.
My thoughts on a Committee would be;
- NPWS Liaison and Advocacy Officer
- Major Trail Works Coordinator
- General Trail Maintenance Coordinator
- Treasurer
- Secretary
- Shop Liaison/Media/Publicity Officer
Setting us up like this would raise funds through membership, allow a bit more transparency and put in place succession planning so that more than EMPY and I are really on top of whats going on.
I'll post more on that in the near future. I'm just waiting right now for some guidance from MTBA/IMBA and then want to put it to the GTA.
