OMV access
Anybody know if there are any other ways of accessing the OMV tracks?
Specifically looking at whether there is any means of access off any parts of Normanhurst (western side of Pennant Hills Rd), or even more specifically, anything to link up Pennant Hills Park with OMV which minimises road riding and hike a bike stuff.

I often access OMV via quiet backstreets, the Hornsby Link trail and a killer climb up Rosemead Road. There are a few steps to carry your bike up at the end of the Hornsby Link trail.
Have a look at this ride I did yesterday:

I rode up the road to Hornsby but returned via the firetrail/ backstreets.
Starting at DeBurghs bridge, ride thru LCNP to penno park, then OMV for a lap or two, then Quarry Track to Dural. Return the same way or via Cherrybrook / Stringybark Ridge/ Pennant Hills. I'm guessing it would be about 60km and 1200m of climbing.
Thanks. I had been wondering if the fire trail link from Vale Rd to Valley Rd that is shown on some maps was an actual thing and it looks like you've ridden it. Is that what you call the Hornsby Link Trail?
I was thinking of a loop from De Burgh's Bridge, through Pennant Hills Park, OMV, then the Wahroonga / North Turra trails (with a lap or two of Jubes thrown in.
Vale road to valley rd is the one. That does sound like a good loop too.
Just came back from doing the LCNP (from canoon rd) - OMV portion of the ride. Thanks for the strava link jp though I made the mistake of riding to the end of Rosemead instead of riding up to lowanna pl which meant I hiked my dually up 100 bloody steps up to OMV My fault of course.
Very easy from there to link to quarry rd trails or some road riding to get to the wahroonga - nth turra firetrail (a very underrated trail I might add - love it).

I now understand what you meant by the "killer climb" up Rosemead..... My calf muscles are still burning a couple of hours later.
Looking back at your Strava link, I think I should maybe have turned off at Lowanna instead of going all the way up Rosemead. Does that get you through to Quarry Rd or Dural St?
It's a sneaky back way that involves going along a private driveway then onto a bush track. Happy to show you the way one weekend if you like.
Yes, good training hill isn't it!
Had my 2nd attempt on the LCNP, Hornsby link, OMV and wahroonga/nth turra trail last weekend and went up to lowanna. Whilst better than hiking the bike up 100 steps to the back of OMV bloody hell it's a climb after already doing 25kms. I ended up doing the walk of shame at about 3/4 mark. Deadset there were two people walking up the sidewalk backwards on their morning walk to give their thighs a rest!
Yeah the link through to OMV from the end of lowanna wasnt obvious (to me). As jp said you pass a couple of large 'private driveway no thoroughfare' signs down a driveway and the entry is on your right. It had a light tree across the trail last weekend (placed by locals?).

I was politely told by one of the residents not to use that access as it is private property and the track is also on private property.
So out of respect I haven't used that access since and suggest that maybe you shouldn't either.
Also the fact there are "No thoroughfare" signs might be subtle hint you shouldn't be using it.

Yep fair enough.
... I'm not sure that the pleasant cruise down Wareemba Ave and the nice but short bit of fire trail offset the stair climb out to Valley Rd and then the Rosemead Rd climb. If the Lowanna Ave short cut is verboten I might give that whole link a miss when I ride up to OMV. I can get plenty of hill practice just riding up my own street!!
BTW, heading up there via the upper reaches of LCNP along the "river" is not much of an attraction either, I might add. Aside from the rocky horror show to get up there from the Devlins / Penno Pk turn offs, it smells a bit like a sewer up the Conscript Pass end at the moment, although tonight's rain might give it a bit of a "flush". Up the concrete climb to the park next time for me.
