Replacing Hayes trail with shimano XT

Hi
I'm thinking of replacing my Hayes trail disk brakes for some shimano XT brakes. Can any one tell me if this will work. My bike is a kona hoss so I bought the bike because I'm around 130kg and it was sold as there Clydesdale bike.
I'm going to try and do it my self.
Will the rotors that r already on there work with the new brakes or will I have to replace the rotors as well.
I'm going to get them of CRC.
Any comments about the best way to do this would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Tim

Hi Tim,

Will work just fine, some rotors are slightly thicker so if you end up with a little rotor rub moving to the shimano rotor will help. Also with the ice tech range the rotors do assist in the overall performance so if you have the coin getting new rotors will be the best option for and overall easy job.

Fitting is easy, the only challenge will be if you need to shorten the brake lines but that is very achievable and you tube or the shimano tech docs are very easy to follow and understand.

I would encourage you also to check local prices at your LBS as recently there has been little difference and you would most likely get them fitted up also including brake line adjustment, I regularly use the big online sites but always like to give the shop a try first up.

I did change my brake last year myself. My tip is to measure the length of cable before u order. It could avoid bleeding by ordering the similar lenght. For internal routing, it is very time consuming and not easy with existing gear cable. So I brought it to the shop and he spent 1 hour but still failed to do so. BTW, sydney giant does a promotion for $350 including fitting. Your LBS may match it.
