Great, I'll do my best to get to Hornsby.

I'll drop by and say hi.

I went to ourimbah for a ride sometime last year and the Specialized crew were running a demo day to my surprise.
I got to test the S Works Epic, Stumjumper and an Enduro.
I found the people operating the demo to be extremely helpful and were only too willing to get me on as many bikes as possible. They spent the time to adjust everything to my size and weight and there was no rush to get the bikes back. Totally awesome bikes and I didn't touch mine all day!
I'd recommend anybody wanting to try one out to get out there and have a go. My next bike will most likely be a Specialized because of this top service and the quality of the builds.

Not trying to put you off but a mate of mine has bought 2 specialized bike and had problems with both already not throwing the blame to either bike shop or manufacturer but first bike a mtb buckled rear wheel , crankset came loose ie 2mm side movement , pivot point bolts were loose and its had its first service bike is a stumpy 29er and only 3 moths old . Second bike a roadie has already had 3 spokes come loose bike is 3 weeks old ?

When I promote a bike brand it gets deleted but this is promoting a brand and does not get deleted.

Why?

That would look far more professional and credible than a whining post that really you should have sent via a PM.

Your own demo day is also something that is more likely to be re-distributed than your original post on a forum that isn't really DH focused and is more likely to gain you exposure.

Have you thought about learning marketing basics?

... but Dicko has been and continues to be a long term contributor to the forum over a number of years so that may explain why he has been cut some slack.

It did raise my eyebrows a bit nonetheless.

Your posts in contrast Anton appear to have been primarily commercial in intent and it seems you only joined the forum relatively recently around the time you started promoting Mondraker. You may have posted other things, I don't recall, but that is what stands out most prominently to me.

You're more than welcome to participate in the forum in the spirit in which it is intended, which is to help other bike riders, enjoy riding together and talk bike shite with like minded nutters.

But if you just see us as a potential commercial target audience for spam then you are unlikely to be extended much courtesy here. Such behavior is disrespectful.

I hope this helps clarify why you might seem to have been treated differently.

...I'm gonna go down there on Sunday to do some skids on bikes that aren't mine! Those skids are always the sweetest!

I'll probably also be trying out a bunch of bikes with various levels of travel, and might have a dip at a 'hot lap' on one...

Regardless of who makes 'em, trying out sweet bikes on proper trails is just that - sweet.
Always good to meet other nobmobbers.....

Guys I apologise if you think this is spam, it was purely intended to advise you of a demo day coming up, which i know many on this forum are interested in.

Some have asked what bikes / sizes are available for testing ? I have gleamed some more information from the Cyclery Northside facebook page

MTB's

Epic Marathon 29 (all sizes)
S-Works Camber 29 (all sizes)
S-Works Stumpjumper FSR Evo 29 (all sizes)
Enduro Expert 29 (M)
S-Works Stumpjumper HT 29 (L)
S-Works Fate HT 29 (S, M, L)
Rumor FSR 29 (S, M, L)

Looks like a good mix. I am looking forward to testing some of the longer travel bikes myself.

Hope to see you there !

i think i did something similar with a post last time "test the best" was around...

Either way i had a great time last time comparing my old bike with the current model and others in the range. Although it was quite embarrassing when literally 2 min into my first lap on my bike i came off and slid on the timber and really roughed myself up a bit :0 hahaha didnt stop my from riding a few bikes Smiling

Thanks for the info btw. Ill try stop by.

Jono.

The tone and wording of this post by Hawkeye raises a question for me.

Is Hawkeye an official site moderator? Rob.

Rob's picture

... this post is right on the edge or being too commercial. However, the OP was indeed cut some slack as he has been a long time contributor here, the wording wasn't that bad, and there were no commercial links in it.

Someone else here is complaining about their rather more blatantly commercial posts being removed. If this thread is right on the edge, you can guess why even more blatant posting will have been removed. Filling a post full of links to commercial entities, marketing text and images, etc. are all going to cause more of a stir than some guy raving about how he likes the bike he rides and how he wants to [ rather misguidedly IMHO - I don't like the Specialized brand Eye-wink ] get us all to ride one too.

As for the question of who is and is not a mod on this site... everyone knows I am. There are others, but for the sake of their sanity this is not public knowledge. As a site moderator I cop a lot of personal abuse via emails and PMs about all sorts of issues that I wouldn't wish on anyone else.

Now... back to testing the best... anyone want to organise a Yeti or Cannondale test day? Eye-wink

I'll be sure to inform if I find other test days of alternate brands.

I wouldn't mind testing that Whyte XC weapon that Fatboy has either.

From a members perspective; I would not consider the original post as commercial or pushing the boundaries at all. If someone informs me of a chance to test some new bikes with no obligation, and I wasn't aware of that event, then he's done me a service.

Next!

For us who are working on our short list this is a great opportunity to go and test ride before we buy, The models and sizes available to test was listed as well - how good is that?

Suggesting that this is borderline is just silly - this is one of the more useful posts I've seen. Would be good if the other brands on my short list would do the same.

I had thought the phrase being in the passive voice ("has been cut some slack") was sufficient indication that someone else had made the decision, not me. I was looking to explain to the guy complaining why *a* moderator (any moderator) might make such a distinction in the circumstances and save Rob having to spend time weighing in himself.

Obviously I failed at that and in hindsight I should have added "by the moderator". Apologies for that.

So no, I am not a moderator.

It's a pretty thankless task for which a thick skin is compulsory. I reckon Rob does an excellent job and we owe him a debt for that. And for paying the bills.
