Maverick Series Return

This weekend is the Capital Punishment (see events calendar), the race is the first round of the Maverick Marathon Series - which for many people adds a welcome 'unifying' set of series points to their season / year of racing.
There has been a bit of drama with rival series this year etc - so I wrote a brief article for The Roost magazine about the upcoming series and its strengths.
Hope you enjoy it:

Nice write up certainly got me excited about my virgin Capital Punishment Eye-wink

Nice little write up yet again Mate!
Good luck at the weekend.
I'll be keeping an eye on the "preliminary " results!

You've got us pumped for Saturday... and all the subsequent events!

Why does the title photo look like a bunch of roadies have jumped on mtbs?

Antsonline's picture

Other than one bloke in that photo, that is a collection of pretty much Australias best XC mountain-bikers.
They all probably do also do a fair bit on the road too, and shave their legs.

They probably wear baggies sometimes though, and maybe also own a full-face helmet. I couldn't be sure though.

I wear exactly the same kit for Mtb as I do on the road.

Was more a joke than a serious comment. I'm sure these blokes are awesome riders and will be wayyyyy faster then me on Saturday. Just having a dig at their attire. Especially the road socks.

Maybe I should ditch the baggies and the visor on Saturday.

Haha, Hasbeen......
You might want to check who that is leading the train out..... then maybe pull your foot out of your mouth.

... I like the camo gear Smiling
Is that so they can't see you as easily if you get off the front of the lead bunch?? Or so you can get a tow along without being seen? Whatever it is, I hope it works for you. Not sure I'd be up for it....

And good luck Saturday!

Its funny - because one of the reasons I like the Attaquer kit is that it really stands out, and is different from the typical 'wanna be pro' kit - littered with sponsors etc. So I feel slightly less 'road pro' wearing it - which is where this discussion was heading anyway!

But - whilst the Camo is great, I have some really good stuff ready for this weekend. Certainly WONT be blending it with the Canberra bush!
I will be wearing 'roadie socks'.
Attaquer are an Aussie brand, and although they get their kit made in Italy, its a Sydney friend that is 'Attaquer'. Check them out sometime!

I tend to agree a bit with Hasbeen. We do all look a bit roadie! I was just at the front this (last) year in that photo. The minute I am not, or am just not as fussed by results, it'll be baggies for me.
I wont waver on sock-length though. 6" minimum height!

Good luck to all the Nobmobbers at Cap Pun, and if its the series they are chasing, remember - every second will count, and if you have a drama, its always worth finishing. You don't know if you'll need the points later...

I hope (and suspect) Ant took my sartorial advice with the good humour that was intended. Other wise I apologise and remove my Sidi and road sock from my gob.
