That does look like a good idea and not a bad price either. I reckon I'll get onebeing as though I'm on the road a lot more now days.

Check out his preview here. There's sample video on there too:

Been following this for awhile. I'd like to see a final production version, but I hope to buy one.
Perth guys too.

I'll be buying one when they become available. It'd be nice to have a white flashing one for the front too.

such a good idea to have the camera automatically record over old footage and save footage following a crash - main reason why i havent bothered with a gopro as i would be regularly deleting old files

Yeah, all that stuff is standard on a car dash cam (which I also use), so it shouldn't be hard to implement.
I assume a front/white will be out not too long after.

A few issues i have with this... The circular LEDs around the camera introduce some light pollution to the video. I assume this is sorted in final production. More importantly, and this might just be my opinion, multiple LEDs flashing at different times are far less visible than a single bright LED flashing by itself. Something about multiple flashes even out to a constant output, giving the appearance of a solid glow at distance. Kinda like how your eyes blur pixels together.

Simplify it to one big bright LED with multiple modes, and a camera thats insulated from the light output.

and have had some correspondence with the guys bringing them to market.

It's a great idea and addresses a lot of the usability issues with gopros. 1080p would be nice but so long as shutter and sensor speeds and low light performance are all good enough that won't matter.

Best of all is the 5 hour battery life. That'll mean I can run it on my training rides on the weekends and have it be useful for the whole ride. Set and forget. The mount handles aero roadie seatposts too, so there's been a good amount of thought applied.

In the flesh they're a bit bulky compared to a normal tail light but similar to a GoPro. So not very "pro" if you're a roadie who cares about The Rules, but I'll live with that.

My only concern as an all weather rider is around water resistance. I have some doubts on the strategy they're using but hope to be proved wrong.

I can't wait!

My LBS owner had one for our Saturday morning shop ride a few weeks ago.

He did not tell us until after to see if anyone noticed. This particular one broke the footage into 15 min blocks so the file size did not get too big.

The video quality was very good. Could make up faces of the riders several bike lengths back even in the just post dawn light (6:10 in the morning). Quite wide angle but not fish eye so little distortion.

Saw some footage from a rough section of road near the Swanborne Barracks. You could freeze the image and make out the number plate. Not like in the movies, but still good if you zoomed in.

Longevity and robustness will be interesting to see.

I noticed a couple of the guys on the Papa's ride yesterday had them mounted on the seatpost yesterday. I asked one of them what the recording was like and he said it was pretty good, that you could make out most things well enough to get a description or plate number.

The small circle of led lights just lets you know that the unit is running, while it still has a full function led light below. They are only slightly larger than my smart tail light, maybe 1 and half times the length, but hey what would you sacrifice for peace of mind out on the road.

I'm interested to see how many more reports are put to the police once these are in full production. I only hope that each of them is looked at with the proper processes by the police and not just dismissed because of this new fangled device.
