Get some Troy lee 5500 and 5400 model knee/elbow pads. The are comfortable and not too hot.

661/Fox/POC/IXS/TLD should be a good starting point.

But that said, do you want to ride DH as a discipline or just hit some more challenging sections on your normal trail riding? The reason I ask is that developing technique or trying a different set up on the bike might be a more effective method of tackling challenging terrain.

More of a proactive approach rather than reactive.....Eye-wink

i have poc vpd and they are great. a lot of crew men and women were wearing the G form knee and elbow pads. I know you can get them from wembley cycles

thanks for the info so far
I am wanting to build my downhill skills up and do the next "WAGE" event I have always enjoyed the rocky and technical trails and getting some air is always a bonus

It might be better to err on the side of caution and get a little more than just elbow and knee pads.

TLD do a range of lightweight upper body padding that looks lightweight and manoeuvrable but still providing enough protection. The BP 7850 looks good.

Depending on your bike and the set up consider how you might make it more suitable for gravity Enduro. Wider bars and a shorter stem, plus larger volume tyres could be easy and fairly cheap methods to get your bike, and therefore you, feeling better suited to riding the rough stuff.

FWIW I wouldn't recommend the GFORM pads for DH. They simply don't compare to properly designed DH kit and will disintegrate after one substantial stack. Given you probably don't have the same muscle mass as us fellas, it is worth looking into something more substantial.

I wear the IXS signature elbow guard and hammer knee/shin guards. Seem to perform well enough and comfortable to wear. Saved my knees a few times. If you ride with flats, the extra shin protection is definitely worth it. Those pins bloodly hurt!

I'm also in the market for some elbow pads, knee pads, and an armour vest of some kind but really want to be able to try them on before buying. Anyone able to recommend any shops with a decent range on the north side of the harbour/northern beaches?

All the shops I've been into only have 1 or 2 options in very limited sizes. I bought some elbow pads from Wiggle but were way too big so now have the cost of shipping them back and don't want to repeat that exercise too many times...
