Meeting Point:

End of White Cross Rd, Winmalee, NSW. There's a small parking area here but it's a standard suburban street so overflow isn't a problem.

Details:

G’Day all,

It’s been a long time since we’ve had a social ride around Winmalee and while it’s mainly fireroad, it’s still fun.

The plan is to meet at the end of Whitecross rd at 8:00am and start the loop there.

There are 2 early bail-out points but the plan is for a pretty solid 50km. The planned loop will be as follows;

• Head along Shaw’s ridge, down the Shaw’s descent and up Bee’s nest hill to the lookout.
• Back along Springwood ridge, through Todd’s sniggle then down into the Grotto (possible bail-out point).
• Turn left through Bluegum and climb back up to Shaw’s ridge and return to where we started via the short downhill sniggle (another bail-out point).
• Climb/walk up the Grotto climb and ride Todd’s sniggle in reverse, then back out to the lookout.
• Down Bee’s nest and turn right into Bluegum, returning to the start.

I can probably organise a BBQ or something after the ride too if anyone is keen.

Cheers,

Ian

Tempting....

ChopStiR's picture

Sounds Good, except for the Hike a bike back up from the Grotto.

I can lend you a jersey Giles so you can take the blouse off.......

Ian_A's picture

It's only a 6-7min walk Tim, much better than riding around the road.

I love your thinking Ian
But I'm spewing that I have alternative plans

We definitely need more social rides around here

Ian_A's picture

Yeah, I know Bloot. Steve and myself met for a ride a couple of weeks ago on a Tues arvo and mentioned that we should try to organise a few more bmorc rides. It's hard to get dates when everyone is free but if we hold enough everyone will still get together eventually. I'll have to give Todd a call, haven't seen him about lately...

I'm in, just as long as my right calf is okay. Will advise Friday night.

Back a couple of years when my Ashleigh was mtb riding, I can remember hiking two bikes up that hill. Fun times! That almost killed me.

I am a possible starter for this. Would be great to see some more stuff out in the blue mtns.

I need to be back in northern beaches by 12 so not sure if 4hrs is accurate ride time for 50km.

What chances have i got in finishng this ride by 11 ?

Anywhere out there is a maximum 30min from the carpark so you could easily leave whenever you need to Dicko, even if most of us are still out and about.
I recon you'd be a possibility for the Bee's Nest KOM too.......

Hey Ian
it was mentioned and a good idea re the group rides

As far as Todd goes he's just dropped off Rotorburn as well
And no word from him since saying he was Ok after the fires
Even the elusive JP says he hasn't seen or heard from him

Ian_A's picture

I've spoken to him on the phone a few times this year and he came to the 1st WSMTB maintenance day in Jan or Feb. He's still kicking around, he got a new job so I think he's working more than last year too.

The Toddski is smashing night shift. Or should I say it's smashing him! We've chatted a few times over the last week or so.

trim's picture

I'm in to keep Tim company...while the guns are off in the distance somewhere!

ChopStiR's picture

Sorry Pete and guys, I have to drop out. Hope to join in another ride in the future.

Andy Bloot's picture

Glad it's work commitments and not the sight of me wearing lycra that is behind Todd's disappearance

NB is drenched - forecast looks good up in the mtns. Have you had much rain ? Can you let is know if this is cancelled tonight or in the morning. I will be leaving the beaches around 6am.

No rain in Glenbrook today, not 100% about Winmalee.

I'll pass this time Ian. See you on the next one.

Ian_A's picture

Hasn't rained at all here W. We're looking fine for tomorrow. Maybe a chilly start but around 20 when we get into it.

Dutchy74's picture

Cool, looking forward to it. The legs will be a bit rusty going up Bees Nest.
