Looks like you can have 1, 2 or 3 x 10, and sequential shifting off the one shifter where it moves up and down across however many front rings you have, and up or down on the rear as required to get the next ratio. Or you can still have both shifters if you want.

Sitting on the fence with this one. After watching so many drivetrains get trashed in the last few days at the Port to port it leaves me in two minds. No cables to get clogged up and go bad but, and it's a big but, ripping a mech off could get expensive.
How much for a mech compared to XX1?
Considering the Di2 is only on the Ultegra Road Model. I don't think we will see it on the XT and SLX for several years if.

You do know the SRAM electronic will be wireless... when it eventually gets here

Looks sweet, but yeah replacing a damaged rear derailleur will be expensive.
On road they released it on Dura-ace for the first year and cascaded it to Ultegra (XT equivalent) in the second year so I wouldn't expect it to take too long to hit XT. A Ultegra Di2 RD is $242 on CRC these days ($500+ for the Dura-Ace, eek) so if the XT was around the same that doesn't seem too scary.
I've never trashed a RD yet so may not be the best person to make the call but having just got a roadie with Di2 I'd happily take the risk of rooting a $250 RD every few years for the shifting magic that electric gives

I wasn't fussed when I first heard about this, but seeing the finished product, I think it looks fantastic.
At this stage it looks to be more suited to XC riding, but I'm sure AM versions will be out eventually.
PS. I'm sure like with their road RD's, the motor will disengage to prevent damage in a crash. Obviously won't save the actual body from getting torn off, but should alleviate some concerns.
Obviously electronic shifting must be very, very good and I must try it to see what I'm missing. I have mechanical Dura Ace on my roadie and XTR on my MTB and couldn't ask for more. My roadie is so precise and shifts cleanly every time and I don't need to charge it or frankly touch it in over 3000km/s. The MTB isn't far behind only jumping ranges takes a sec or two but no biggie.
I've looked at Di2 on a test rig in a bike shop and the alignment thing is amazing but I guess only if your having alignment problems.
Weird as I am a techy nerd but just don't get the expense vs return in this case

A luxury once sampled becomes a necessity.
Rode DA for decades and never really liked the idea of electric until I got a Di2 road bike ~18 months ago, now I can't ride anything else. Even converted the TT bike to Di2.
Would do the MTB too, but it would need to be Saint to replace what I already have.
Out of curiosity would when on long rides your chain get clagy & selecting gears becomes a bit harder would Di2 just drop in no mater what or would it be the same as cable
A guy at the LBS dropped his road bike a few months ago. I was seriously considering buying a new road bike with DA Di2 at the time until the shop owner showed me the damage and gave me a figure on replacement cost. Rear der and a new right hand shifter were better part of $1500 dollars. Rather pricey for a road bike which you wouldn't consider to be a regular occurrence. Ripping the rear der off your MTB would be an $8-900 repair which would probably be more of a possibility.
Di2/electric is the pinnacle of shifting atm, it's going to be expensive.
The current DA 9000 should run ~$1,100 for a pair of levers and an RD if you buy online.
If you go Ultegra, a single lever and RD will set you back ~$370.
Unfortunately no matter what you buy in life, there's always the chance something basic could ruin it all.
Mate broke a chain on his gixxer 1k a few years back. It spun round and split the crank case open. New engine please.
There is certainly the possibility of something breaking your electric shifting and costing you a bomb, but if you really need better shifting, it's worth the risk.
Road racing back in the day as a junior on DA, everyone really tried to limit shifting in sprints to 1 change max.
Now on Ultegra Di2 I have no problems shifting at over 1,000w. It certainly protests more than DA, but still shifts just as quickly.
Have just put my credit card details into CRC's web site for the Di2 setup
I'm getting the controller, the flight deck display, the front and rear derailleurs and - when it's available - I'll get the upgraded Fox forks (that can be controlled via the Di2 lit).
I'm no means a serious racer, or rider even - but my tax cheque was thankfully larger this year by roughly $1500 so why not
When it's all here and dusted I'll be commuting to Perth each day on it (and home) and I'll be playing up in the hills for some RWT - so anyone wo wants to have a play or a look are more than welcome!
I'd say I'll be up and running by mid July. The Di2 will be going on my Giant Trance X 2 (29")
Now... I just need to upgrade my shocks and source some neat wheels! (29")... Anyone have a recommendation for some light but strong wheelsets?

Had to turn it down because work has been so frantic.
