If it's a rear there are some alloy bolts that will work but the front end I'm pretty sure will require a maxle.
I've got three on bikes at the moment and have never had a problem, well, other than the old Hope hubs snapping axles. If you clean and lube the moving parts you should never really break one, if it was an impact that's fair enough.
I think a few companies produce maxle. DT swiss and rockshock are common ones.
I just learned what a maxle is.
Not sure where the crack is on yours but just in case:
Have a Maxle and, where the cam lever fits in the 'cup' that is used to tighten the axle before the cam is activated, has had a 'split' in it since it was new. If you look at this picture you can see that the cup is meant to have a split in it around the 7 oçlock position on this photo. http://www.bikeradar.com/gallery/article/rocksho...
Maybe a pic of the cracked part?
I bought a new real deal rock shox one for like $60 or something. Not sure why you would go with anything else - just make sure it's not too tight.
Thanks guys but mine now has 2 cracks will look into a new one
