BC Bike Race 2015
Well I got up at some ungodly hour this morning in an attempt to get an early bird registration to the race. I failed.
Despite completing the required info in 11 minutes all of the A, B and C early birds were gone... Astounding.
So a couple of hundred bucks poorer than I budgeted for I hit the register button anyway.
I have been captivated by the reports on this race in the last couple of weeks and I am stoked that i took the plunge. Just trying to cope with the logistics of it all... Being self employed and this race falling in probably the busiest time of the year for me it was a decision that I pondered for hours. But hey - life's short....
I've been to Vancouver and surrounds 8 times over the last 14 years ... But always in winter. Now I get to experience its magnificence in summer. Only 355 days to go

Good luck mate. I did it with Scotty B in 2012 (the wet one!) and as hard as it was it was the experience of a lifetime. Don't just focus on aerobic fitness, your skills work will need to be a 1000times better than what you think it needs to be. We got a real shock from the technical aspect of it all. Work hard on core and forearm strength. Take a bigger bike than you think you need (120mm 29er is the sweet spot), don't run super light racier tyres, use a dropper post and have 7 jersies/shorts/socks/gloves.
Soak it all in and don't forget to have fun.
All of your tips echo some of the stuff I have already read.
Regarding the bike choice - I have a choice of two. A S-Works Epic or a Bronson C. I'm leaning toward the Epic with a dropper and some chunky tyres. In an ideal world I think a S-W Camber would be perfect... but unless I win Lotto in the next 11 months that aint gonna happen
353 days since I originally posted this.
Flying out on Thursday after months of plotting, planning and lots of training. Racing begins on Sunday in Cumberland on Vancouver Island and finishes 7 days later in Whistler.
I'm nervous, excited, apprehensive but mostly just pleased to be finally about to get this journey underway.
Bike is in tip top shape (thanks Ride in Workshop) and is now safely packed in my new Shimano Mega Pro bag. What a great piece of kit that is
Weather in Vancouver for the next 10 days looks dry and warm 26-30 degrees ... Yikes! Be a bit of a shock to the system.
Will try and post some reports if time and Internet connection allow.
Have a great time, I'm jealous!
Look forward to the updates.
Have fun Grant, I hope all goes well and you have a blast
on Vancouver Island,as much as "racing" will allow anyway, it is an absolutely stunning part of the world.
Good luck
Remember to bring @pancakes back some authentic maple syrup...
I look fed to reading your write up!
and the good news is that the plane is only about 1/2 full.
Scored a row of three to myself. A bit of luxury for that dreaded 14 hour flight
@ Black Flash - I'm sure Dino has a pantry full of the yummy golden stuff!
