Group Order - AY-UP Lights ... Any Interest ??
Hi,
I'm new to the site so have not met any of you, but I am looking at getting some AY-UP's and starting night riding. The MTB kit is about $489 and I think if we can get enough of us we should be able to get a reasonable discount. If anyone is keen then please e-mail me on [email protected]. I will try organise to send a list of names to Andrew at AY-UP and then we can buy individually and all benefit from a discounted price.
Cheers
Ian

hey chitts, am interested but unable at the moment so thats no help! but i noticed torpedo 7 are doing these http://www.torpedo7.com.au/products/NPLIHNNEX for 100 bucks at the moment and they are normally 300+, sound bloody good deal maybe worth a look? i dont know how good they are, maybe some of the knight riders here might? rob u know about these?
Well, they are low-tech indeed. SLA battery even, and halogen. That said, what do you expect for 100 bucks?
FWIW I started night rides with only 10+5W halogen from T7 before deciding to invest time in making the LEDs. The 25W set here would be plenty good enough for firetrail and maybe light technical work, you might just get round the Dam if you didn't go too fast.
Thanks, but the reviews on the AY-UP's are really good (anyone heard anything else????) Also, while I am keen on trying the night riding (which I am 99.999% sure I will love), I also commute to work so the AY-UP's will make it that much safer (my justification)!!
ayup lights are excellent value for money, many people here use them.
i use mine for mtb and also commuting, cant go wrong

Ian, I might be interested in the 08 kit with the new Cree lights which are apparently 20% brighter than the older models. I think I would get the narrow lights for the helmet and intermediate for the bars. Would be interested to know how difficult it is to remove them when not needed. Anyways, will need to speak to the bank manager. Will get back to you shortly.
I can also vouch for Ayups. For those not too technically savvy like myself who just want to purchase a set of really bright lights and not do any fiddly set up work yourself, these are da bomb. I bought an intermediate for my handlebars and a narrow for my helmet. They provide excellent illumination of both the trail immediately in front of you and over rocks and bumpy terrain. I think they were a fantastic purchase. You can't go wrong with them. I haven't heard a single person that has purchased Ayups complain about the quality of the equipment and the power of the illumination it provides you.
Hi Ian,
I'm after 2 sets of lights only (narrow and intermediate crees) and a few bits (some pouches and more mounts).
A group purchase should help for a discount. It's been done before by the Nobmob clan.
Already have the batteries.
I've also got Matts 2 x luxeons on loan, which I'm sure he is interested in selling for a good price if anyone is interested.

... how many sets the nobmob guys ordered from AY-UP, and what discount they received as that would be very usefull in knowing what we can push for!!
Group discount was 7.5%, but we purchased 15 light sets to get it. I reckon you would go well to have a 5% discount. You'll save about $25.00 each. Possibly ask them to throw in free mail costs - but you'll need to organise for one of you to do all the ordering, and distribute what you receive via courier. When you are paying, Ayup will mark off each of your EFT's as paid before anything is sent to you. You can pay your EFT's separately.
I would also recommend that you purchase 2 extra handlebar mounts and 3 extra mounting bands. You will invariably lose or break some of these, so it's good to have spares. You may need to get some black cable-ties too, as they mount to your helmet and handlebars using cable-ties. I think Ayups can give you more cable-ties if you ask for them in your order.
I will probably contact them tomorrow or Friday
