Best time of the year to buy brand new bike ?

Folks,
I gave myself six months to buy a new bike, hardtail 29er, as light as possible for a 2 grands budget. Don't know yet the brand I want (specialized is my first choice so far) but have you noticed in the past years that there are time of the year where you can't get it wrong, it will be a good deal ? Of course end of financial year but that is too far.. Christmas maybe ? just after ?

Cheers

really ?
eg : something like this bike, do you reckon it is at the right price : http://99bikes.com.au/merida-big-nine-cf-xt-2014

These days u can buy a carbon 29er hardtail with fox fork and xt/slx build. Then u can upgrade the post, bar and saddle, maybe wheel later on. Specialized is good brand but u may not be able to get carbon frame given same amount budget. Keep eyes on red sale if u know what u want!

I have one and I'm really happy with it.
Pushys are doing a great deal on them

@gazza, my understanding u have rode a lot of bikes. Is it a lot different between average and good carbon hardtail? Pls advise.

Sorry for hijacking in here!

Good time is now when next years bike are hitting the shops and they are getting rid of 2014 bikes.
You can find 20% off RRP at the very least

that link you put in
of the Merida has apicture of a hardtail but lists both a fox rear shock and fox fork, something's not right.

Don't forget our "partners"

Thanks guys..
@Gazza : BH Ultimate look very nice ! Don't know that brand but will have a close look ... But the price ....

@kittheknightrider :
Shock: Fox Float CTD Remote BV SV - Factory
Fork: Fox 32 Float 29 CTD Remote-Ready O/C **(1.5T) - Evo 120
Not sure where you saw the read shock ...

Anyone can advise a shop where they sell specialized with good knowledge ? Stumpjumper or Craze are fancy ...

Oh btw since we are talking about bikes now, I am a fire trail rider (Adventure racing type of stuff) hence the reason I want 29er and as light as possible ...

I think the best for me would be to give a go to 2015 hardtail branded bike during demo days.

Now is a great time if you're happy to be flexible a little. I waited til September in 2011 to buy a Trek Fuel EX. They ran out of my size and there was none in stock in Australia. Forced to buy the 2012 model. I was happy but the Chief Financial Officer (wife) wasn't too impressed with my new baby. But then wives are never happy amIright?

kitttheknightrider's picture

um, see where it says SHOCK

Shock normally refers to a rear shock, fork normally refers to a front fork.

Now google Fox Float CTD Remote BV SV - Factory First link returned is this http://www.ridefox.com/product.php?m=bike&t=shoc... and guess what, that is a REAR shock.

now Google Fox 32 Float 29 CTD Remote-Ready - Evo 120 and again the first link is this http://www.ridefox.com/product.php?m=bike&t=fork... and you guessed it, that is a fork.

The merida 99bikes link you have shows a hard tail but lists both a fork and a shock, something is not right with that.

Get one now, check out the new Mondraker 2015 range in carbon

Like this one just up a bit on your budget at $2600 but still worth a look

I have also ridden quite a few bikes and the merida is by far the most versatile. Specialized has the brand power but they are overpriced and you will get an average bike in the 2k range.

Lifetime warranty on the frame is also a plus. For 2.6k you can't really get anything better. I did ok on half marathons but after moving to the big nine, it is a different game and I can now really race...

The guys @ 99 bikes have been really good . (Artarmon is my lbs)

Lifetime warranty is the lifetime of the bike. So if it breaks or cracks, that's the end of the bike's life. Guess what: your warranty just ended too.

Warranty only covers manufacturing defects, not fatigue. The reputation of the local rep for customer service is what counts. Example: Yeti and Giant = awesome. Cycling Sports Group = shite (no wonder they got sacked by Dorel).

The very best time to get a bargain/discount/deal on a bike is...
A rainy weekday!
It's true. Particularly when it's been raining lots. And the weather is generally shit.

Looks like I should have bought my bike in the last two weeks then Smiling 2014 bikes on red deals and plenty of wet wet weekdays .... Thanks for all the tips guys. I think I will monitor the prices during the next 6 months, go and try bikes during demo days, think of all the features I want/would like to have ... and maybe Santa will be good with me this year Smiling

is the wentworth falls (blue mountains) bike shop and they are a specialized dealership
it's not exactly next door to you, but is accessible from artarmon and I had good experience with them

I narrowed down two bikes with roughly similar specs. Which one would you pick ?
http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bikes/mountain/...
http://www.trekbikes.com/au/en/bikes/mountain/cr...

They are both CF, SRAM X7 front, Deore XT rear, 29er tubelkess ready, fork rockshox reba RL 80mm travel on Stumpie/100mm on superfly.
Not sure which one is the best brakes set between Shimano Deore and Magura TS ?

The superfly has the remote control for the fork.

I was really keen to give a close look at the BH ultimate but the HT 29er are really hard to find in Australia (pushys have no stock) and not sure about the price neither....

Also I gave a close look to the superfly 8 which has aluminium frame but better gear
http://www.trekbikes.com/au/en/bikes/mountain/cr...
(shifters/crank/front derailleur/brakeset all shimano SLX)

Are they really that similar ?
Any other pick in the price range (2500 to 3000) ?

I haven't ridden them yet, but will soon.

Dont; forget to have a look at the Giant. For 2,800 it looks like you get a carbon frame, XT/SLX mix and Fox 32 RL's. Is my memory playing tricks or was it only 2 years ago these were 2,000 with full XT?
