OMV Festival this December
From SNORC:
"Hi xxx
Old Man's Valley Bike Festival - Registration is Now Open!
Many of you said "hey, let's have an event, let's get together and ride the trails" - well here it finally is - the OMV Bike Festival on Sat 13 Dec 2014. Help us show Council that we love these trials and need them (many of you have seen media reports of Quarry filling which could impact trails) by participating in the festival and sending the message that cycling is something that needs to be supported into the future.
You can now register for the race of your choice. Numbers will be limited due to trail length so jump on now and slap your name down whether it be flat stick A grade XC, cyclocross (this is unreal fun for all comers - a must try and arguably the true root of mountain biking) or cruisy fun festival freewheeling in the lower grades. Or, if you want to try something different, get a mate to form a team for the bomber / whippet team relay."

Press release below.
On 13 December 2014 SNORC is hosting the Old Man’s Valley Bike Festival. The festival will bring a full day of racing for all levels to the popular Hornsby Mountain Bike Trail in Northern Sydney.
In the morning the Hornado cyclocross race will traverse fire roads, meadows, singletrack and possibly the steepest on foot run-up in Australian history! In the middle of the day cross country riders will test themselves on a course which includes some of Old Man’s Valley’s best singletrack, with categories for beginners through to elites. The day will close with the uniting of the full face helmet brigade and the knights in white lycra in the Bomber/Whippet Relay, a one lap time trial in which the first rider descends from the top of the valley and tags off at the bottom to a teammate who climbs back up. The festival will also include bike demos and a fundraising barbecue.
Proceeds from the festival will be divided between SNORC’s trail building activities and the Hornsby Kuring-gai Women’s Shelter."
Get onto it!

Sounds like a pretty great day out!
Anybody want to be a uphill whippet?
I'm not a whippet but I don't mind a bit of climbing.
Keen to be a part of this however the mtb gods have deemed it necessary to hold this fine event on my daughters birthday. "Just going up to hornsby westfields honey for a few hours to get some streamers....and stuff..." is all I have at the moment
Interested to find out which route they choose for the XC - Perhaps starting at the bottom near the kids loop and initially up the firetrail to spread the field out a bit before the southern loop, descent into the valley, stage 2 blue loop, stage 1 ascent to quarry rd and repeat.
