Group Buy - Jenson Brake Pads
For everyone who rode today...
I'm going to order some pads from Jenson, Avid Organic:
http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/BR310D01-...
$19 and shipping for the 20?! or so sets we'll need will be about 2 bucks per set. Don't forget this is USD but the CC should give us 90c-ish forex so still 5 bucks cheaper than Phantom without taking their shipping into account and (sorry boys) loads cheaper than the LBS.
They might even have your funny stoker pads Damien, check and let me know the link if so.
If anyone wants anything else from Jenson please comment or PM me with the link/quantity, so long as it's not too bulky shouldn't impact on the freight. Will post a Google Spreadsheet with those calculations - we'll do it on you pay proportion of freight based on proportion of parts cost.
Want to send this off ASAP though so order cutoff will be going in 8pm Monday night!
Sweet?
Update: Oh, they have EBC's for $13 due in on Wednesday. I'm prepared to wait for them to ship out if anyone wants these instead of Avid Organic (but can we still have order cutoff Monday night so we're set?):

Had a look and they also have no stock available which is starting to worry me a bit.
Put me down for 3 sets.
Cheers
Brian
.... in the UK have packs of 4 that are about A$80 for a pack, and last time I looked they had stock.
Sorry Chitts, but we discussed this morning, once someone suggests a different store things go all pear shaped. They are listing at $82 anyhow - pretty much the same so no drama.
...had just seen the post about "out of stock" and jumped the gun!! Apologies!!
I just got 4 sets from www.dropnzone.com for the pricely amount of $14 a set usd. This is for genuine avid pads, not copies so you also get the little spring which you don't with some of the copies.
Why organic? No wonder you go through them so quick get the metallic ones mate they'll last longer particularly in the crap we ride in.
Just send Taylor / Allen an email, they might go cheaper with a bulk order and postage is always reasonable.
You might also be able to get Damien his Stroker pads. Ask and ye shall receive
I found two sets of pads for my hayes strokers on Ebay at a good price and have snaped them up it is a bit of a worry for anyone with these brakes as they are out of stock everywhere.
Try www.discobrakes.com they have quite a massive range. Free postage over $60 or so and they generally arrive quickly.
Can anyone advise on how the organic pads stand up compared to the standard sintered ones.
I can picture Rob pulling his hair out
as long as the sintered metallic do. They do however give a slightly better "feel" and on the juicy range atleast produce less of the dreaded squeal.
That said I have a vague recollection of having read somewhere that certain brake systems don't like the sintered metallic pads because of the extra heat generated, but I am happy to stand corrected on that one.
Put me down for 4 sets
Put me down for 4 sets as well
This bike shop I know in the foothills of Swaziland...
Re pad compounds - From what I've heard is that it depends on your weight and stopping power needed... Metallic pads are supposedly tougher on the rotors... Check this out...
For the riding I do, organic pads seem to do the trick.
