Rode both Serrata and Gahnia late today and saw stacks of the pink markers on the trails.
Did the trail runners use the tracks on sunday ???
If so WTF or is it just some ones sick joke ??

According to this site it's the Bay track which is the walking trail from Seafrth Oval, down t the jetty and back up to the bluff.

Still... anyone up for a group ride around Bantry Bay Sunday morning Eye-wink

No mention of Gahnia or Serrata but they're definitely using Possums again...

This starts the same as the medium course, but when runners cross the pipeline, they turn left, run up onto Aquatic fields past the Aquatic Centre, over the footbridge over Wakehurst Parkway, then into single trail mountain bike trails between the Parkway and Bantry Bay Road ,before coming out at the end of Bantry Bay Road, and running down the main fire trails, which turns into single trail and down to Seaforth Oval. A left turn takes runners down Timber Getters Trail and to Bantry Bay after descending some steep stairs. Runners follow Bantry Bay along the Bay Track, and climb steeply up to the Bluff, and back across Ararat Reserve before joining back to the mountain bike trails they came on

Barf!

Let them run, they dont hurt anyone. Firstly they are finished by 9am at the latest and secondly when I ride the trails at around 7am I never see anyone around anyway. Tracks are not closed so you can ride them whenever anyway.

I believe the deeper concern is not simply the infrequent early morning occurrence of said race(s) rather that runners subsequently include purpose built mountain bike trail such as Possums as part of their weekly/daily training program.

Interesting how their description even uses the wording 'mountain bike trails', a clear admission of trail type/purpose.

I had the same thoughts when i saw them over the weekend, but on closer inspection the tapes have writing on them such as 'add rock drain', 'fix wobbly rock' etc.

So in fact it's a great thing as the trails seem to be getting a 3 month service.

Apart from one corner on Serrata that everyone seems to be taking wide and the now chopped tree at the bottom of the rock chute on Garnia - the tracks are holding up rather well.

@Hawkeye - It's not one of these is it?

EDIT: All good. Rode it yesterday and it's not the one I was thinking.

Are back to check over the tracks and look at maintenance.

We are chasing up about the volunteer days with NPWS.

The biggest issue on Gahnia as far as I can see is the bypassing of the large roll-down about 3/4 through the track. Seriously, if you can make the filter at the start, you can make the roll-down!

I actually find that roll-down that is being by-passed more of a challenge that the filter... mainly because it's blind and is just in between a huck and a roll down.

I'm on a 26"er s0 that may have something to do with it.

Still.. no excuses for the b-line. If you can't ride it walk it and/or session it until you can.

Have fun out there!

I hear what you're saying but I'm on a 26 inch bike with only 140 mm travel and no dropper. I think people (not directed at you danielschipper) need to build skill, rather than change trails to suit their skill.
