how do blocks of land like this (and as another example the new subdivision at the end of Bantry Bay Road) even end up for sale?
these blocks should be included into the parks and reserves they border, instead our land managers are bleeding valuable resources to developers!!! not happy..

THE auction of a large parcel of government land in Seaforth has been postponed following an outpouring of local community concerns about the sale.
The 4132sq m site on Kirkwood St was being marketed in an online auction campaign through Blackleys Estate Agents and was due to end on Monday.
The land has been owned by Sydney Water since 1892, when Manly Dam was established, and is next to the two operational reservoirs just north of Kirkwood St.
Most recently the site has been used for access and storage.
A number of uses were mooted for the site, including a school, daycare centre or luxury residential estate.
But yesterday a spokesman for Sydney Water revealed that the decision had been made late on Tuesday to postpone the planned sale in response to community concerns.
“This decision was made after concerns were raised by the local community regarding the sale of the land,” he said.
“These concerns related to environmental, bushfire and zoning issues.”
The spokesman said Sydney Water still planned to sell the property – which was surplus to needs – but the feedback had showed consultation with community needed to be carried out prior to the start of any sale.
“We look forward to working with the local community to understand their concerns further,” he said.
The bushland site is surrounded by national park and is close to Wakehurst Golf Course. While it is undeveloped, it does have access to power and water.
