Ourimbah State Forest
When:
Sunday, 18 May, 2008 - 09:30
Duration:
4 hours
Come Rain or Shine:
If it's raining, I won't be there.
Ride Database Entry:
Ourimbah State Forest Details:
As the single tracks are being closed around our ears we may have to travel slightly further out to train for the Angry Doctor. Aim to get at least 2 laps of the XC course and perhaps the downhill as well. This means The Valley, Big Gully Road, Jurassic Park, Potters Gully Road, Five Ways, The Roller Coaster.. it's all on the trail and all brilliant.
Aiming to ride at a fair pace, but the main idea is to get the single track skills up a bit. I'm happy for anyone to come along.

I could be tempted. Depends how buggered I am after OF.
I was hoping to ride Ourimbah State this weekend, and after seeing this, I thought I might finally go on my first Nob Mob ride. Would you mind having a fairly inexperienced but willing rider join you? If I'm too slow, I don't mind getting left behind - but if you really only want to go hard, just let me know.
BWOAR!
Dear Uncle,
Just to gauge what you call 'slow'... how fast do you normally lap the dam? Can you climb out of Cascades without any real problem, Demtel hill is a bit worst!
You could come and get left behind if necessary, but that wouldn't be much fun for anyone. I would suggest we won't be going full speed but that's really LT's call - it's his ride.
I can climb OK, it's just that I'm a big wuss and go a little slow downhill. My lap times for the XC course at Ourimbah are around 50 minutes. How would that rate for Sunday?
BWOAR!
Ahhh... you'll be fine with that kindof pace I reckon. Don't worry, if we do the DH (which I won't be particularly keen on - will be on a XC bike!) we won't be setting any records.
Hi unclebullbar
Not a problem, the more the better, it's an awesome place. Knowing Rob it will probably get competitive at times but you can't really get lost, last time I was there it was all signed up after a recent race. It's a great place to get your skills up, we will see if we can get you down that sheer drop! Look forward to meeting you.
Dylan
Thanks Rob for the vote of confidence. Like I said, if I'm holding you up, just let me know and I'll potter along at my pace and you guys can let loose. Looking forward to riding with some new riders.
BWOAR!
Dont worry Bulbar, Rob's Rush can't make it off a street gutter, so you know there will not be too many technical DH trails with that group.
considered posing
if i come and bring a dh and xc bike
hahahahah
Kurt
Well, if I manage to hijack the car from the missus, I’ll be there.
Cheers,
Leo.
I'm considering coming but they are forecasting showers for sunday so we'll see...
I've never been there but it sounds great. However I'm a bit lost with the exact circuit you plan to do when I look at http://nobmob.com/media/kmz/ourimbahstateforest.kmz can someone 'draw' me the circuit please
Yeah, showers are forecast, like that means anything?
Let's just ride faster and wear ourselves out before they come!
Here's a lap from the last race, very nice:

There's more to see than this, but it's a good start.
looks like you never finished your lap
Ourimbah is not really affected by light rain. Unless there is torrential rain there, you will not notice any change in the trail condition. In fact, light rain on Ourimbah makes the single track faster. You can really rail some of the bermed corners.
Rob was in such a state of euphoria after completing a lap of Ourimbah (it’s that good) that he elevated himself to a greater level of consciousness resulting in his bike floating for the last 200 meters, spaced out man!
i'd avoid the graveyard though..
As of a month ago, the graveyard was blocked off. You make a detour to skip that section. No big deal, it just lets you start another lap faster!
Oh dear, thats a sad commentary of my riding frequency given that Ourimbah is my local.
by the way the google maps coordinates are wrong, please correct it so I know where to meet you should I come

I thought I copied from the ride entry, I guess I didn't do a very good job. Anyway that link is the place.
You don't have to copy the meeting location if you're planning on the same place as listed on the ride page. It does it automatically.
The car has been secured and I'll be there tomorrow 9:30!!!
See you guys there.
Cheers,
Leo.
I'll be there too (driving a black Golf). It takes about 1h30 from Sydney yes?
Rob please bring the jersey
Sorry guys, due to 'unforeseen circumstances' I'm out.
Ie. parts of my skin have been deposited on rocks at Red Hill and the left shin shaved by shifter lever. Don't worry, I took revenge on the lever by bending it with said shin at the same time. So think it's best to give tomorrow a miss then.
Don't worry - there will be pictures later!Ouch!
Soft!
Yeah, I know, those levers bend real easy!
did you slip with those carbon shoes ...sorry couldnt resist!
Nah, as if I'd wear the red shoes at Red Hill!
Road training is much safer!
cars don't bend as easily as a shifter does
For a supposedly rainy day, today was just great, although as I was in an eco mood and felt compelled to hug a couple of trees (literally), but no great harm done neither to myself or the bike.
Cheers,
Leo.
Great to meet you guys, had a top day. The track is in really good condition, nice and fast and plenty of techy bits to test. That section around the grave yard is nice. The downhill was a bit more full on that I remember, perhaps it is a bit too much for a XC bike after all
Looking forward to the next time...
Dylan
Thanks for a fun ride guys. I really appreciated the positive influence of having you guys around and willing me on.
Before riding today I was sure I would take on the drop, but after wussing out on the first lap, I thought it would never happen. Thanks for helping me (and Tom) to conquer the drop!
Andrew.
BWOAR!
Erm... yeah, but Dylan, you don't ride an XC bike!
indeed a great day for riding ! my legs weren't tired enough so I added 2 more laps but I couldn't go down the drop again alone !
Tom
Great day, my last run was not so great though. Wasn't feeling the vibe ( you know, Eddy Mabbo and all that) and managed to stack at every obstacle. I had such a great ride yesterday on Sat but I guess I was still a bit tired.
