Went out yesterday morning to have a race prep crack at 3 laps. Went through the first lap in 26.45 and was going strong on lap two - until a chainring bolt worked it's way loose and my chainring just came off! I packed up and went home a little cranky.

Not satisfied I went out again today to try and just do the two laps. It was pretty hot and I had a little bit of yesterday in my legs, but I wanted to have a go anyway.

Went out hard on lap one and set a few PB's on the single track, but then I dropped my chain on the descent to the creek. I obviously didn't put it on properly because as soon as I got across the creek it bloody bounced off again. It cost me a bit over a minute in total and deflated my motivation, but I kept pushing and finished the lap in 28.03.

Lap two, pretty tired and the heat was getting oppressive. Pushed hard and finished off in 28.35, for a total of 56.35.

I had a 6 or 7 minute rest the pushed for a third lap and managed to finish it off in just under 30 mins.

Feeling pretty strong for the Half Fling next week. Will take it pretty easy during the week and start my carb load on Thursday.

Great time! Must have not been much traffic.

I'd say good luck in the Fling but it doesn't sound like you'll need it. Are you doing the half or full?

How come only 2 or 3 laps? The half is 55k so that's 5 laps worth and not a bad training plan?

I ended up finishing 9th in the Half-Fling. I was chasing a top 10, so I was pretty happy. I wasn't quite strong enough to hang on to the top 8 and kept yo-yoing off the back of the group until they finally dropped me just before the transition at Wingello.

Have been back to Manly since and completed 4 laps in 1:51.37 and my last lap was my fastest in 27.54. I'm slowly getting stronger and faster. Just need to work out what to race next.
