Does anyone know if you can run an 11 speed XTR shifter and rear derailleur with a SRAM 11 speed freehub and cassette?

Yes you can.
I know a number of people doing this with XT or XTR Di2 in order to still run the significantly lighter and better range 10-42 cassette but have the Di2 shifting. Getting the chain the right length and B-screw in the right place is critical, as the long cage shimano mech is only just able to cope. Just as bit of trail and error.
As long as you keep shifter and mech the same, everything plays nicely together.
I dont think you can run 2x with the XD driver / 10-42 cassette (no idea why you might want to, but your post didnt specify)as the mech hanger would need to be pretty special!
Thanks Ants. I'm buying a Stumpjumper and I'm not keen on the SRAM shifter and derailleur. The LBS is telling me if I want to run Shimano on it I also need to swap out the freehub and cassette, but I didn't think that was the case.
Yeah - its pretty rare - thats for sure, but you can do it.
Here is a quick bit of real life evidence (and a super neat seatup)...

Yes, both are Di2, but its the same thing as cabled..There is a fair bit written about it all on various forums.
Meanwhile, the good old LBS doesnt really do itself many favours (the default 'no' rather than 'maybe, lets research it, it sounds cool')
Thanks again and you are right re the LBS, but in the main they are a good bunch of blokes so I'll forgive them this time.
