This long weekend rides

This weekend I need at least one long (low impact) ride.

I would like to suggest a local trip along these lines.

1. Start (park car) end of Wyatt Ave, Belrose, at power grid station entrance.
2. Head all the way past the nice big isolated house to the technical drop at the far western end of the newly proposed council netball courts (Grrr!).
3. Continue through Cascades north up to and through the tip.
4. Travel thought the tip all the way past St Ives Showground via Mona Vale Rd to the Terry Hills shops.
5. Complete all possible Terry Hills tracks.
6. Then head down to Duck Ponds and back onto Mona Vale Rd.
7. Proceed down Forest Way then left into Morgan Rd.
8. Complete the cross-country loop twice.
9. Head back up Morgan Rd to Forest Way.
10. Cross over Forest Way back into Wyatt then back to our vehicles.

Should be roughly 85-100 Km, (GPS)Robin to confirm distance on the day.

I propose Sunday 11-6-06 8:30am as my best, "non kids sports days", date as Saturday and Monday mornings my son has Soccer, Grrr!.

As there is nothing really technical about this ride (ok some will have to walk the occasional bit) we (I) can still do this ride rain hail or shine. (remember the old saying, "We play in the rain so we should train in the rain")

Looking forward to a very big turn out.

Sorry Greg, but not sure I'm up for this right now. I will be looking to do a slow ride with few hills with the GF this weekend. She loves pine forests so might head to Penrose and try and find those trails Justin missed Eye-wink

Justin's picture

Penrose is a long drive (unless you are Robin and hoon it) and the trails just aren't that great, without knowing where all the single track is - and the single track has changed due to logging

Were you pissed when you wrote the above? I quote, "Complete all possible Terrey Hills tracks".
"Do X-C loop twice"

I'll buy you a six-pack upon my return if you manage it.

I read the ride planned by Pikey and made a mental note to never go on any rides organised by him!!
How long will the whole thing take?

Christine

I think Greg should be able to do this ride in about 8.5 days of continuous riding.

You’re all bloody wusses!

Yes I may have had a beer or ten when I invented the "Inaugural Northern Beaches MTB Classic". I may amend, "Complete all possible Terry Hills tracks" to "The out and back" only and perhaps just do the X-C loop ONCE.

So Justin does that mean you and Liz are slightly interested?

Justin's picture

Sure, love to - see you there. 6:30 am start? I'll organise state rescue to throw on a barbie at the end.

That's only if our trip to ITALY gets cancelled hehehe

craigs's picture

Greg if you want to start early I might give it a go with you...
I might need to set a time limit though say 6 hours of riding and see how far we get.
Start 6:30??

Might actually get on the bike between now and then to make sure I can still ride...

Craig,

Good to see there is at least one believer.

Yes, I think a 6:30am start would be wise.
Justin, As I was never any good at cryptic crosswords and the fact that all flights to Italy are booked this weekend (due to that big soccer game over there somewhere) can I count you as a starter?

PS: Craig, if you aren't familiar with the duck ponds route then we will have to skip that section as I've only done it once.

PS PS: Gavin, afraid the new stump jumper won't make it? Smiling

Sorry, you got me.

We're going to London first. Then Paris. Then Switzerland. And it's only after ALL that we get to Italy.

I'll try and upload some photos from the MTB in the swiss alps

Have already put a ride on saturday, i do not use nobmob anymore to post rides. You would have got the email. As for Gregs ride i am very tempted, sounds like an awsome idea. After morgan road epic last weekend this could be a great ride. Give me a buz on the weekend Greg. Or we will do morgan road back to front again.

My best buddy Marc Andre in switzerland is taking Justin and Liz MTB , boy are they in for an epic. Marc bought a mtb store in Villars with 80 new bikes ready for the port de soile. Bon voyage Justin and Liz and watch out for the mountain mushrooms, usually part of a summer suisse picnic lunch. (fun riding home after that).

How did it go, did you make it all the way?

You know - I thought about moving the other comment:

He posted it on my ride (which no-one showed for) after hearing how wet things were.

You see Rob how we need to do something about the mixed laddering of the site responses.

But I still love your work

Thanks

Greg

For what its worth Rob, I'd agree with Greg. Is it possible that responses remain in order of time posted so that if I respond to an original post after someone else has, my post is displayed below theirs, no what I mean? I actually found this quite confusing at first, trying to follow responses that were appearing above the comment they responded to. Maybe I'm just fussy and its not that big a deal after all. I too still love your work, will try and have the DVD for you Sunday, assuming you are going, so I can love your xvid work a little more.

Done - comments are now a 'flat list' not threaded. Let's see who complains about this Sticking out tongue
