GDAY FOLKS,

have been keen to get into single speed riding for a while now
and have started looking around at options
am looking for a 26" medium frame w/ a 80 to 100 mm fork
something i could ride around the streets, maybe even a lap of manly dam
have rung most of the bike shops and no real positive response
Being an engineer, was contemplating buying an old 2nd hand XTC or similar,
cutting out old hangers and welding in horizontal drop outs,
fitting a conversion kit and running 32-16? ratio??
am hoping to keep cost below $1000
any ideas and info would be appreciated

have found this online too

Cheers

Paul, you don't need the horizontal dropouts just buy a chain tensioner like a surly singleator and you can use a frame with vertical dropouts. You can then just buy any hardtail and take off the running gear and change the rear wheel to a singlespeed. You local bike shop sells the kit (only $25 or so).

I've converted a hardtail to a SS before and I'm now converting it back to a internally geared hub bike so I'm happy to help you out.

Rohloffing it up Paul?

Of course not, I would hear the end of it with Bernd.
I've gone Shimano - Nexus 7 speed with coaster brake in blue velocity rims.

The bike is more for commuting and cruising - I'm going to build it up and sell it.

Is Paul drawing a correlation to his previous bike? Evil

The link works for me and I have no idea what's wrong or how to fix it.

Once I finish the bike I'll post another picture using the Image function.
