Day trip to Ourimbah?

Here's a coincidence... (or is it?):

Our poll about days away now has Ourimbah as a leader, and as luck would have it, everyone's favourite mapping tool now has hi-res pictures of the area. As such, I slapped together a couple of rough maps:

Ourimbah Overview - shows the whole area.
Ourimbah Downhill - shows that small area in the north with all the good stuff.

This was mostly done from investigation on topo maps, and it looks although a couple of healthy circuits can be made to compliment the downhill fun we all know is in here someplace.

I'd propose an outing sometime soon-ish (there's no pressure - in next month or so) to check out the downhill stuff, then take a longer ride out, probably down Scaddens Ridge and back up Middle Ridge/Red Hill and return for a final downhill back to the start.

Sound good? Who's in?

Rob,

I'm extremly keen.

Perhapes throw up two dates and see which of the two is more popular?

I'm keen, too.
give us a few dates and see who can make it, would be great.

Ah... so you are waiting for the proposal of a couple of dates, eh? Eye-wink

OK - can anyone make it Saturday 12th August? Or failing that, the one after (the 19th)? It's about an hours drive isn't it, so a 9am meet might work?

Of course I'm easy so leave it to the folks with commitments to comment. Plenty of space in the car and on the rack for a car share deal.

19th is ok, in my VAN is plenty of room for bikes.
car share deal sounds good, I take all the bikes and drive of!!!
and open a bike shop somewhere....

Thx for the tip - let's go then! Laughing out loud

Erm... or maybe not :">

Should we make it the 19th then or give the trails some rest first?

How hard will the ride be at Ourimbah? And how many k’s do you think? I am about to become k obsessed!!
(I have also managed to recruit two of my friends to do the 50k Fling! Smiling Are you all doing the 100?).

MEEEE Smiling

Hi,

Apart from my concern at slowing the rest of you down too much, I’d be keen to go on the 19th.

Cheers,

Paul

Come on Justin, what sort of commitment is that Eye-wink

It's looking like the 19th is the day, lock it in.

Shall we aim for 9am meet, north end of Red Hill Road? Car share things to be worked out laters.

For those interested in what lays ahead go to

...and download the helmet cam version of video number 08. Picture quality is pretty average but gives you a good idea of what is to be expected.

Happy trails

I'll reserve the day...I have a van as well if we need it.

Hi guys, my name's Arpit.
I'm new to the site. Nice to meet you guys, this place looks great! I do a bit of downhill riding at Ourimbah, and a bit of cross country elsewhere.

I'm really keen to join you guys. I'm not sure what your backgrounds are, so I don't know whether this will be a day of mostly downhill and some cross country, all downhill, or mostly cross country with a quick tour of the downhill track. Could you clear this up for me? I need to know whether to take my downhill bike, my STP, or both! My STP can do cross country and can (barely) manage some downhill. MY downhill bike can do downhill; that is all.

I'd love to take you guys down the downhill track. I've ridden it a few times before. It's quite a bit more challenging than that video makes out. The video was made by a very skilled rider. I'm a full minute or two slower than he is, depending on which bike I use.

A van would be brilliant if you guys want to do shuttles. Shuttles are when everyone takes turns driving everyone else to the top of the hill to do the downhill track.

I'd really like to share a car with someone. I hate driving up there alone. However, my downhill bike doesn't fit easily on a regular bike rack. My STP is fine though.

Hi Arpit, think there'll be a real mixed bag on this ride. I kindof thought we'd play around a bit on the downhill area then those who feel the need could take a look further afield if they tire of that.

Can't say I even considered doing shuttles, but there's a first time for everything Eye-wink I think we're mostly more XC orientated with a bit of downhill/technical tossed in now and again, but some of the others (I'm thinking at least Greg) will be game on for numerous runs and jumps and stuff, and who knows, we all might be on the day.

So there's a broad range of folk is I think what that mean, and am sure there will be someone like minded along on the day.

arpit's picture

G'day people! Well the day looks like it's pretty much organised, thanks to Rob!

I'm going to try to get a lift up with Rob. Is anyone interested in doing shuttles ALL day on the downhill track? If so and if we can organise a shuttle vehicle and riders beforehand, I'll take my downhill bike.
If everyone wants to do a bit of cross country too ( and the XC track is fun), then I'll just take my STP.
I may even take the STP even if we are doing shuttles... By the sounds of things, the DH bike may not fit on Rob's bike rack! He may not appreciate his car doing wheelies from every traffic light either Eye-wink

Cheers,
Arpit
