Leaky UST tyres
I have an issue with my UST Crossmark tyre.
Few weeks ago I found that they had a few tiny holes in it. I could see the bubbles of air through the water after I washed my bike. So I ordered some Stan's solution as I thought that should seal these little holes up.
However they tyre still seems to be leaking?! I just wet the tyre again and I can still hear and see the little bubbles of air through the water.
What gives? I followed all the instructions on the Stan's bottle.....shake upside down, one scoop etc.
Any ideas why my tyre is still losing air?

Caro's tyres do this all the time. I think they are crying because they do not get used enough!! As to why it happens, I have no idea.
just svae yourself the hassle and put a tube in.............
did we not rotate it enough???
tip the fluid down to the spot where the holes are?
how bizzare and rubbish? Stops nail holes... but not mini ones???
Mine seem to be holding fine, but they are band new LUST tyres....
Yeah it's strange. I had a look inside the tyre and I can't see or feel any obvious object that has penetrated the tyre so I am not sure why it is leaking air in the first place. And it is a fairly slow leak. It may lose 5-10 psi a day only.
As for the Stan's, I did the whole rotate and shake thing as per their videos and still leaks Their fancy videos seem to show the sealant sealing holes instantly so it is strange it can't seal these tiny leaks Loz!
As Adrian says it maybe easier just to go back to good old tubed tyres at this rate!
you can have a tube stuck to the tyre like my weirwolf
Hi Ben, you will probably find that stans only works when the leak is faster as the rushing air probably helps solidify it.
Cheers

Strange though. If I turn the wheel so that the hole is at the 6 o'clock position the Stans solution should all flow down to the bottom covering these holes. The difference in air pressure between the inside of the tyre and the atmosphere should then push something out these holes.
However I don't see any white solution coming out. Grrrr how is the air getting to the surface of the tyre
Had the same issue - cleared up after about a week or so, still loose a little air over a week or so but all seems to be good now.
What sealant did you use Harry?
I sure hope it fixes itself soon.
I had the same problem with my thin walled continentals. At 450gms (non tubeless) the walls are pretty thin. I added a scoop and let them sit on a bucket on their side for 1hr each side. they hold really well now. top up every few weeks.
Funny thing is the bubbles are actually coming out of the tread itself not the sidewalls or at the rim.
Also these are UST tyres so theoretically shouldn't need any sealant at all!
Not to ride over echidnas...
Have you checked to see if the rest of the tyre wall (internal) is hole free? There may be a channel within the tyre itself that releasing air away from the actual damaged area.
I also used Stans and did the on its side trick - UST just means the rim will seal. I wen't and asked the LBS where I bought the tyres about it being tubless and was told that they all leak to a degree and that Stans or some other form of sealant is required.
Hiya Buck,
I have UST tyres as well and they do loose some are over time. However I use modellers latex in them. Like the above, I was told to refresh the latex / stans every 6 months.
Cheers
Evan
If your tires aren't shot before the 6 months is up and need replacing anyhow then you're not riding enough!

Thanks for the replies so far. I have read about using latex. I'll give it a go next time when the bottle of Stan's runs out as it seems like a cheaper option.
Haven't had a chance to lay it on it's side yet but I will give it a go on the weekend and see how that goes.
